crème de la crème

Someone, whose identity I won't reveal here,* requested more pictures of food. Solely to oblige her, I stopped by one of the local pâtisseries and took shots of some of the tastiest-looking treats. Feast your eyes on these nonpareils of Gallic goodness, then vote in the poll below.

For easy identification, the poll options are in the same order as the photos.

*But I will reveal it here. It was Antigone.

edited to add: I know (hiding face in shame) that the language of the poll is filled with typos. But I can't fix them without eliminating the existing votes. Sorry.

Not sure who I'm thanking here: Niobe, Antigone, or anon baker. Sigh.

*Drool*

This is why I could never go to Paris. I'd come back 50 lbs heavier.

What I crave is a something I used to eat too many of when I lived in Switzerland - pastry base, whipped cream and on top vermicelles of marron glaces. But any of yours would do too!

I think I gained a few pounds just looking at these photos!!

OOOOHHHHH, can I vote for all of them?

Way to get my salivary glands revved up first thing in the morning.

What do the French clerks think when you start taking all these photos of their food?

niobe said...

Lori: I bought a couple of macarons, then asked very politely if I could take pictures of their pastries extraordinaires, since, I explained, we had nothing like them in the US.

I knew I would overindulge when I finally got to France, but I never expected the pastries would be my downfall.

I think you should tour the world, take pictures in bakeries and publish a book. Seriously, best seller list.

I can't choose just ONE! Can't we get them all and then share?

I think I just wet my pants a little.

ok, are we voting based on which photo we like best, which description sounds the most delectable, or which one we'd eat first?

oh, there's a term for this: food porn. but if you're thinking of starting a new blog, the name is already taken in many different forms. I already checked.

I would eat them all. Shameful, but true.

I think I need to go wipe up the drool that is all over my keyboard right now...

Aha! Me and the raspberries are in the lead.
Wait, is that a good thing? Shouldn't I want everyone else to pick other things?

Good thing it would be a very expensive trip to find that bakery, because these pictures are shaking my Passover zen.

I see now why the rollerblades were packed.

Seriously, I'm a little bizarrely obsessed with your rollerblade offhand remark many many posts ago. Are you rollerblading much? Did others in your family bring their rollerblades? Are there lots of rollerbladers there? What do they wear? Do stick out as obviously American?

And further, why do I have the feeling that you actually don't eat much of these sweets? You're a food pusher, aren't you? (I don't know how you feel about emoticons, but I want to add a wink to that last question).

What Julia said! There won't be enough raspberries for me!

Oh, I am dying here!

"Food porn" it is. More please.

Julia: Just to add to the torment of those of us avoiding leaven, stay tuned for my forthcoming post where I illustrate what happened when I talked a (kinda hot, in case you were wondering) French baker into letting me do an up-close-and-personal photo shoot of him and his, uh, baguette.

Oh yum! I want some! Those photos are awesome!

The other thing I absolutely adore about French pastisseries is the totally divine little packages they make to carry the food porn home. I once went to an exhibition of an artist who had recieved a government arts grant to go to Paris and collect these paper concoctions. How I wished I had thought of it first!

What I voted for was based totally on your photos. I usually go for chocolate first, second and third, followed by something non-chocolate. But your photos persuaded me otherwise...
