in real time

What I have lined up on my windowsill at this very moment:

seven rubber balls
a postcard of a painting by Redon Odilon
a square magnet that says "life is hard on the island"
a mediocre and poorly framed watercolor of some boats at anchor
plastic snakes in a ceramic bowl
an antique sheriff's badge from Lincoln County.

Is that just ONE windowsill? Or a very big window? For the longest time, I had a very large rubber cockroach (like 8" long) on the floor under the toilet. I think it got lost in the move.

Why yes, I do have a big window and (she brags shamelessly) a nice view.

re the rubber cockroach: Ewwww. But I guess that's one way of preventing people from spending too much time in the bathroom.

Hmmm... I don't think I have anything on any windowsill anywhere in my house. What does that say about me?

Lori: Maybe that you're not as fond of trinkets as I apparently am. Or you keep them some place other than the windowsill?

I can't put anything on any of my windowsills unless they are cat/dog toys. Even the pictures on the radiator covers get tossed aside. My hope is that the frames' warped appearance will look intentional....

The windowsill here in the guest room where I blog is also wide, and holds the following, reading left to right:

--four plants on a humiditray (two live, two dead)
--two books, one read and one not
--a shallow basket containing this pile: two partially-used skeins of yarn, some fabric scraps, an old tefillin case and siddur that belonged to A.'s grandfather, 8 more books, 2 of them very small, all but one read and waiting to be put away, one cd, one gardening catalog.
--one of those things you hang in the closet to control moisture, and no, it shouldn't be there, either.
