niche marketing

The town I live in prides itself on being a neon blue island in a navy blue state. So I was amused, but not surprised to see the following handwritten sign in a store window, propped up next to a pair of very nice black patent leather pumps:

ATTENTION CROSS DRESSERS!!!
THESE BABIES GO UP TO SIZE 13 MENS!!!!*

*capitalization and exclamation points in original.

love it. LOVE IT. reminds me of visiting Ocean Pines, Fire Island in the eighties. When one stepped off of the ferry, there was always a cross-dressing extravaganza to behold.

I love that you made sure to remain faithful to the original overuse of exclamation marks.

Your town sounds like fun. I like the neon/navy metaphor.

I'm 6'-1" and have actually perused transvestite websites for shoes.

LOL! Do you know anyone that needs them?

Actually, I had to read it a couple of times to understand.

My brain these days, I tell you.

I wish I could say a sign like that would be unusual here in T.O.---we're a little red up here as you know!

Magpie: My stepmother's nieces, like Still Born, are over 6' and have a tremendous amount of trouble finding women's clothes that fit. If they lived nearby, I'd suggest they check out this store.

I, on the other hand, often buy my shoes in the children's department.

I buy some of my shoes in the children's department, too. Mostly casual sneakers--they are so fun/cute and cost less than women's shoes. I always get compliments when I wear them
