i can't remember who told me this story

One evening, a hunchback was walking through the woods. He came to a clearing, and in the open space between the trees, he saw three witches, dancing around a fire and singing. As he got closer, he could hear the words to their song.
"Monday, Tuesday. Monday, Tuesday. Monday, Tuesday," the witches chanted over and over again.

Amused, the hunchback sang out, "Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday."
The witches stopped dancing and singing and stared at him.
"Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday?" said one of the witches.
"It's perfect," said the second.
"How did you ever think of that?" asked the third.
And they were so pleased, that they used their magic to make the hunchback's hump disappear.

The witches then went back to their dancing and singing, now chanting "Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday. Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday. Monday, Tuesday Wednesday."
A little while later, a second hunchback walked by. On hearing the witches' new song, he called out, "Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday." The witches looked at him.
"Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday?" said one of the witches.
"That doesn't go at all," said the second.
"You're trying to ruin our song," said the third. And to punish him, they used their magic to give him a second hump.

The redemption of Wednesday?

I was thinking of it evidencing the cruel capriciousness of life. But your interpretation works too.

LOL.

But wait, if Wednesday is "hump" day, does that really mean "lose your hump" day? Maybe Wednesday is actually "trough" day. Hmm...I'm confused.

Heh. It strikes me that this is how GWB and his administration works.

Guess which of the humpbacks I feel like I am this week?
Well, it has to get better, right?

Where do you get all these cool stories?

Thanks, Aurelia. This one (I think) comes from a book of stories from Normandy -- or perhaps Brittany.
