a long afternoon

We spent the afternoon at the local, non-Starbucks coffeeshop, reading about Edmond-Charles Genêt and Gouverneur Morris and Scipio Africanus, who defeated Hannibal at the battle of Zama in 202 [edited to add: that is, 202 BC, as Aurelia alertly points out].

Although it was, for the first time, really cold outside, I ordered an iced latte and poured myself lots of little cups of ice water, one of which I managed to spill all over the floor and myself while reaching across the table to plug in the laptop. I ate myself sick on white-frosted, pink-sprinkled cupcakes and took pictures of practically everything in the store. But the only ones that came out at all were a couple of shots of the plastic hula dancer who stood on the counter next to the cash register, her skirt bobbling back and forth.

And how was your day?

Glad the water didn't get on the laptop. :) All in all, it does sound like a good day.

White frosted, pink sprinkled cupcakes?????? My mouth is watering! Sounds like you had a lovely day, I myself worked. And there was no cupcakes or yummy iced lattes involved sadly!

Okay, I gotta go have something sweet now.

Cupcakes make any day good.

Not bad. Finishing some things before my job starts tomorrow. Took Monkey to a playdate. Getting ready to go to bed soon. Only had a homemade latte, though.

I love sprinkles!

Today we made an expensive expedition to Whole Foods. I also spent a lot of time on the phone with my parents having somewhat unpleasant, though utterly different, conversations. Baby Nora learned how to shake her head "no" and thinks it's hilarious so she did a lot of that--very cute. Laundry. Cleaning. Schoolwork. Chocolate.

Objectively my day was perfectly fine. I went to a meeting, cried in Target again (while wandering through the Christmas decorations), baked an apple cranberry pie, made enchiladas and Spanish rice for dinner, talked to my dad, sat on the couch. Subjectively, it sucked. I just feel like crap. Crap is the wrong word. I'm in some serious emotional pain and I don't know why. It feels like my skin is being peeled off of me - or like when you burn your finger, and then accidentally run it under hot water - it's like that kind of pain. It's stinging. Ah well, it will pass.

I took my child to someone else's birthday party, and when we came home, she took a three hour nap, and I got to catch up on some stuff. Heaven.

Mmm. No cupcakes but I crocheted my niece a fluffy pink and purple hat with a flower on it that might look like a cupcake to some people.

Lovely, thank you for asking.

I finally found just the right coat that I have been searching for, made a tasty dinner, and helped Big J make good headway on the paper he is writing. And now, everyone else is in bed.... Can't you hear the silence?

Well, most of my day was occupied with organizing hockey equipment and buying new pieces whenever someone had grown out of the old parts. I have more shopping to do today!

And I ate some yummy chinese treats that someone sent me, hmmm, who could that be?

Oh, the Battle of Zuma was 202 BC, just in case anyone thinks it was AD. Just because I'm picky about my Roman commanders, hehe

I spent all day doing laundry. Your day sounds infinitely preferable to mine.

I associate Scipio Africanus with the giggles. Didn't he fight in the second punic war?

That word was really funny to us immature college students. Not much has changed since then since it still makes me giggle.
