whaddya get?

Last night, at my stepbrother's house, after dinner and before dessert, my parents gave me a huge, heavy bowl filled with some of the seashells that had once decorated my grandmother's parlor. For my grandmother, like Caligula, was a collector of shells.

And, if you celebrated it, what did you get for Christmas?

Although we technically did not celebrate Christmas yesterday thanks to everyone's Christmas donations (in lieu of presents) Jacob now has over an acre of woodland dedicated to him. I'm pretty pleased with that gift this year, it will certainly last longer than the normal gifts.

Rather than shells I collect stones, I have them from most places I've been. An odd pastime but I like stones for some reason.

What a neat gift.

I got through it, even with some enjoyment. :)

That is the perfect gift.

I love the sentimentality of the shells! That is such a wonderful gift.

I'd have to say my favorite gift was my Ki.tchen Aid Stand Mixer. Hooray for cakes!

My best gift was a full 8 hours of sleep. It still wasn't enough, but it's a start.

I hope you enjoy your shell collection. It really is a great gift. I don't collect anything anymore. I keep trying to convey that to others.

Making it through without completely breaking down was gift enough. Coggy, I love that idea so much. My best gift was from the Mr., a set of 6 stemless glasses from swank martini co.

Well, Christine, you know what they say: absinthe makes the heart grow fonder.

The movie Love Actually and an electric blanket. Two things I could easily buy myself, but just haven't.
I love collecting shells. What a thoughtful gift...

Santa left cash for me everywhere I went. I think I am going to leave my dh for him. ;)

Still laughing at that joke up top. Hee-larry-us!

P.S. Is that a holly berry in the pic you posted yesterday?

Yikes, I hope that is the only the you grandma has in common with him. And ditto, seashells are a lovely gift.

My two favorite gifts were some pens and such from DH (I'm an office supply whore, especially pens) and a gold charm for my bracelet. The gold charm shows a mother and child. I'm getting Jimmy's stats engraved on the back. Yes, Jimmy's, not Andy's. I have Andy with me, it's Jimmy I still mourn.

Coggy: I have a collection of white stones, mostly from a beach in Normandy.

a: I have no idea what it is, but I'm absolutely sure it's *not* a holly berry.

Beautiful shells and photos (as usual).

A trip to Washington DC for the whole fam-damily. 13 of us, including my parents and sisters.

And, since Hubby's parents are here, I'm getting more time to read blogs :-).

We celebrate the holiday but have no money for presents. We did enjoy the Christmas tree that was donated to us by friends with a tree farm.

What a cool present! I got some baking stuff, some books, a new meditation CD, some Philosophy products, some gift cards, and then I bought myself some makeup, a new coat and a new purse. My favorite of course, the bracelet from my dad. Actually, my favorite thing was just spending lots of time with my nephew. I can't wait to post some pictures of him - so cute!

I like the thought that the shells were in your grandmother's parlor first. I like gifts like that...so much more interesting than something bought from a store.

We didn't do Christmas this year, so so gifts. But, it's over, so I'm counting that as my gift.

I got my present just before Thanksgiving: a Nikon d40, which I LOVE. But really, my best present was being recovered enough from my gall bladder surgery (Sunday) to be home with my husband and baby for Christmas!!!

We spent much needed time with family...it turned out to be a really nice day. Some tears, but some laughter too. Beautiful shells. I love to collect them too.

My dad gave me my first pair of baby shoes although he said they were a gift from my mom who died two years ago.

Those shells are gorgeous!

Christmas was crazy at our house, as always. I also got a Kitchenaid Stand Mixer...we'll see if it turns me into a master baker!

a very generous monetary gift that will make this next year a bit easier for us, and allow us to take our daughter to Disney Land without going into debt, and so I am so grateful.

and my MIL picked out the CUTEST dress for me, and it FITS, 2 miracles all in one wrapping. With a cute purse to match.

and an MP3 player/voice recorder, which I asked for.

My fave is the laptop I'm typing on. But the most sentimental: Makeup that my hubby actually walked into Seph.ora and picked out! And the cake pans and cinnamon roll recipe sent to me by my Grandmother.

I always get great comfort from beachcombing and picking special stones and shells from the sand down by the water. so I love your gift! I also have a small stone collection that reminds me of certain places and times. in the past my fave gifts have been vacations and a digital camera. this year our gift to each other was transferring 2 embryos (now I just hope that's the gift that keeps on giving)... (and thanks so much for your comments on my blog.) ~luna

This sounds like such a lovely gift. Should I not be surprised they came up with something so nice?
My parents gave me a trip to the spa. My husband gave me night nursing, which was exactly what I wanted and asked for.

I have a large conch shell my great grandparents found on the beach in Texas. It is one of my most prized possesions.

As for my Christmas gifts, I got to hold my son, something I didn't think I would get to do back in February.
