year's end
Well, 2007 is almost over and, on balance, it really could have been a whole lot worse. The clinic is closed until January 2, but, barring any unforeseen problems, I think that we're all set to go forward with the transfer sometime in the next few weeks. Frankly, I'm extremely tempted to try to limit my stress by not finding out exactly what the schedule is going to be.
What do you think?
Here's a list of a few other bloggers who are planning on doing IUI/IVF cycles in January. If you get a chance, stop by and wish them luck.

Happy New Year! Hoping for dreams coming true or at least a fun ride!
I don't think I would be able to live without knowing so I voted for yes. I would probably find out but then not tell anyone. Maybe that's weird - but it makes it easier I think to not have other people know. Good luck - I'll be praying for you!
Voted yes. It's always best to know. It reduces anxiety.
Good luck with it.. and s'wadee pi mai ka. Best for you in 2008.
I would want to know; I'd go crazy otherwise!
Wonderful wishes for 2008!
I voted yes, but if your clinic would agree to give you really cool drugs to keep you from having no idea what is going on until the end of it all, then I would say ignorance is bliss.
I voted no, why, errr I don't know, I just seem to go for the ignorance is bliss option a lot of the time. I f I know about something it can drive me crackers.
PS. did you get my email?
My vote was for yes, but that is because I am the most Type A person you will ever meet. But if you could go without knowing then I would totally envy your relaxed approach!
Happy New Year - may 2008 be filled with indescribable happiness!
Definitely a no - nothing you can do will change anything so why not just live life in the meantime? You know me, Denial is more than just a river in Egypt!
Happy New Year to you! x
Eh, schedule schmedule. Can't control it, why bother. Not like you won't be ready when the phone call comes, right? (right?) If I can get through '08 and state your first sentence, it will be good indeed.
i voted yes, not so much because i fully believe that knowledge is power OR that ignorance is not bliss, but rather, might as well save the stress for a single day rather than stretch it out infinitely over all of them. if you're like me, at least, stress is not a zero sum economy.
i hope 2008 brings luck, and joy, Niobe.
I voted yes. Too much of a control freak to vote no. Happy New Year, Niobe. Hope 2008 is a good one.
I voted yes. Having a date gives you something to measure time by. 4, 500, 345, 998 seconds until the transfer. That's what I'd be doing, counting the seconds. But I totally get not wanting to know... so you won't be counting the seconds.
Did you buy some black-eyed peas to make?
I'm thinking about you and I'll go by the others and wish them luck too.
HAppy New Year Niobe.
Best of luck!
i hope that the transfer goes as planned, whatever the schedule is. happy new year to you.
De-lurking here; I thoroughly enjoy reading your blog. Seems to me everyone falls into one of the two category labels you've listed. I'm a 'knowledge is power' person myself. Best to you in '08.
Niobe,
I voted yes because knowing would limit my stress, although it sounds like the opposite would be true for you. I will be crossing everything possible and including you in my thoughts each day, visualizing everything going well for you.
Happy New Year
no matter what you choose to do, you will want to know. you will think of it again and again. and what you imgaine is happening is often worse than what is happening.
thinking of you.
xoxoxo
Hi, Heather! (waving) Thanks for delurking!
Um... The clinic is closed? Because no one will ovulate, need IUI, need harvesting, need IVF during those days? I have been to an RE on the day after Thanksgiving (twice) and Christmas. So, if you need them, they better open their doors or I'll be there with a sledge hammer :)

I voted yes. there is nothing more thrilling than having that schedule in your mitts.
Happy New Year!
xo
I'm voted yes, too. Wishing you all the best with the transfer, and all through the new year!!
I'm all about yes. Have to know, would definitely go crazy otherwise. My fingers are crossed for you. Happy 2008...
I vote yes, too. Because you WILL get through the time between now and then, and knowing that you got through it will strengthen you. And thanks for sending good wishes to the rest of us January cyclers.
I have everything possible crossed for you right now. Including 3 cats and 1 dog (I don't think he noticed one bit).
I voted for no (apparently in the minority) because I hate waiting on a specific date. Seems easier to me that way.
I vote yes, because really Bon has the best reason of all. I agree that it's better to only be stressed about one or two days at a time as opposed to continuously stressed.
Besides, aren't you supposed to be attending some of this stuff with the surrogate and signing consent forms & things and paying? So you'll have to know eventually. Might as well get it over with, like ripping off the bandaid quickly, right?
This is very exciting news! Whatever you decide to do, please know that my thoughts are with you.
I voted yes because I am a control freak and the more I know the better off I feel.
Still, you do what you need to do. May it all work out well for you.
I'm with the "yes" girls pretty much for the same reason as Meg and Kami :)
My thoughts are with you!
Depends on whether knowing would put your stress in a bell curve with the top at the day of transfer (or day of testing) or whether not knowing would give the whole month a nervous stressed-out background feeling, and which would be worse. So I didn't vote.
For me, I would want to know (and being a control freak, I would also want the lab reports on defrosting, embryo quality, etc). But for you, it might be that it's better not to know.
