there once was a girl from nantucket*
In honor of St. Patrick's Day, Lori at Weebles Wobblog is running a limerick contest. To enter, just write a limerick that includes the name of a blog or blogger and links to her blog. If you're a little rusty on the limerick form, check out these (uncharacteristically clean) examples.
Once you've composed your deathless ode, post it on your own blog and link to it in the comment section of Lori's limerick post. Enter as many times as you like, but remember the deadline is March 9. If you're not feeling creative, at least read the entries and vote for the best one. The winner of the limerick contest will receive a 50% discount on an adoption profile review. But, more importantly, she'll have a chance to bask in the bright spotlight of fame.
Here are couple of my efforts:
It's Bea that she's asked to go by
And others hasten to comply
But rather than bother
I call her The Blogger
Formerly Known As Bub And Pie.
A blogger whose name is Niobe
Said, "Look, my name sounds like Nairobi
It isn't ni-OBE
Doesn't rhyme with microbe
And if you don't like it, then blow me."
Now it's your turn.
*Oh, and Lori says you're not allowed to use the word Nantucket in your limerick. Probably because, um, it's too hard to think of a rhyme for it.
Edited to add: another limerick! (because I'm sure two weren't enough for you)
So, Beck’s blog is chiefly comprised
Of recipes, deftly revised,
And stories that may be
‘Bout Boy, Girl, or Baby
With WORDS that are CAPITALIZED

Very funny, nye-oh-bee. :)
Oh I had to laugh at the last one....
I'm chuckling. These are great entries!
Thanks for the coverage, Dis-robi.
Tee hee!
Never in a million years would I have ventured to guess that you would create a limerick with the phrase ".., then blow me," in it.
Looove it!
Ms Planner: Well, you know, it's really, really hard to think of rhymes for Niobe.
Those are FANTASTIC! I knew you'd be brilliant at it... I want more more more please!
a LIMERICK with ALL CAPS? Brave you are.
What fun! I agree with cinnamon gurl... more please! Besides, are you sure you are ready to stop composing them?
You are too funny! And very creative with the limmericks!
Oh, how fun. I was already hatching my wolfish plots when I saw the one for me! Yay!
Yours are posted. Tough competition (well, not at the moment, but soon....)
Very good, I can't rhyme worth a darn, so I'll just have to laugh at all your creativity.
I don't think I'm closely familiar enough with anyone's blogs to actually write limericks about them. Even so, I sat here trying to think of a few and I'm all limericked out. I just closed out my 6-week poetry unit at school on Tuesday and I've been grading poetry books for 2 days now.
I spent a whole week on limericks because they work great for teaching meter to 8th graders. The kids had to compose 2 of their own and it was a bit of a headache helping some of them get the right meter and rhyme scheme. With all that limerick-ing, you'd think I could just whip one out, but no - my poetry brains are mush. I couldn't even write one for my own danged blog.
Yours, Niobe, are hilarious. BTW, one of my dogs is named Niobe. Please don't respond with "blow me". :)
Very good.
Aurelia: Here's my secret -- a rhyming dictionary. Just type in a word, and it'll give you (almost) all possible rhymes for it.
I love, love, love the one about your name.
I think the Beck one is perfection.
And a rhyming dictionary? Surely you jest.
these were brilliant
I have never had a haiku written about me before, and I am very flattered. My capitalization habit, however, is apparently OUT OF HAND.
