something blue

I saw Artblog the last time I was in France. It was summer and we walked to one of the playgrounds on the Champs de Mars. We watched her daughter as she climbed on the monkey bars and became fast friends with a little boy she had met five minutes before. Artblog was warm and funny and beautiful. She was also newly pregnant. We talked about that a little, and I silently prayed that nothing would go wrong.

Yesterday, Artblog, dressed in something chic and black, came down the stairs, kissed me on both cheeks, and took me up to the apartment where she was staying. Her three-week-old son lay sleeping in a bassinet, dressed in a tiny pair of blue jeans and a little shirt with a bunny on the pocket. I held him for a while, amazed at how light and warm he was and how easily he fit into the crook of my arm. He was small and sweet and absolutely perfect. It reminds me that some stories really do have happy endings.

I am so happy to hear about this happy ending. Three weeks old... so tiny and fresh. I love 'em that way.

Hurray for chic new mothers. And for newborns in jeans. Hurray for happy endings. For everyone, even niobe.

(I know I am late to this one, but I am so excited that you're in Paris!)

I am glad you got to see Artblog and her new baby. I assume it was hard for you the to hold the baby (but only because it was for me to hold my brother's). So kudos to you for doing so.

It is good to know that sometimes happy endings do exist.

Surprisingly, it wasn't difficult at all for me to hold the baby. Now if there had been twins.....

Oh, such a wee one. So cuddly and warm. I love 'em. Your story will also have a happy ending, I am just sure of it.

Tiny babies in jeans, I love it. And I hope someday I have the opportunity to meet bloggers in fun new places. Hooray!

I'm so jealous you met Artblog! I would luuurve to have been there.

Actually, I don't know if I could have in reality. Although you say it's different because it's not twins and although I am so happy for Artblog, I don't think I could hold a newborn. You're very strong.

One glimpse of the macaroon photo and I was immediately transported back to a little bakery on Rue Cler that sold the world's best macaroons. A quick trip to the Chinese food place next door for a massive glass of fresh squeezed orange juice (sounds like an odd combination, I know), a baguette and some cheese, and I was good for the day. Thanks for the memories!

Kellie: Actually, I bought those particular macarons at a little bakery on the rue Cler....

I'm bummed that the opportunity to meet came and went. We didn't get to Paris until late -- delayed flights -- and had a tight itinerary of things my husband had never seen (first time in Paris as a tourist). With just 2.5 days -- and the rain and hail? That was unexpected. Hope your travel went smoothly...

I believe that happy endings do happen to everyone...in one way or another if you're open to it. It may not be in the way we originally thought but they are there for all.
