never mind

You know that cat? The one that mysteriously appeared in my brother's basement? Well, this afternoon, he found it on the front porch. Mysteriously dead.

Believe me, I get the message. Loud and clear.

edited to add: Thanks for your thoughts, everyone. And don't worry. I do realize that there's a reason that the adjective most commonly used to describe an oracle is "delphic." Besides the fact that there was a really, really famous one in Delphi, I mean.

Ugh! Argh! Niobe.

Please. Don't even allow those kinds of thoughts to take root in your head!

Oh No! I have no words, just sending peaceful thoughts.

I don't neccessarily think that the cat and well, you know, babies, are related (especially since one is connected with your brother, and the other is connected to you). But, what I do believe is that there are no coincidences and that everything happens for a reason, even if we do not know the reasons for years and years.

I still think that there is a reason the due date is the same, but I am hoping that the outcome will be very different.

Sending positive thoughts and warm wishes your way, Niobe

Sometimes a dead cat is just a dead cat (ala a cigar is just a cigar)
What I tell myself when I find myself looking for a 'message' is that so far the only real 'message' that I have is that this baby is ok, everything else is just my imagination and my fears.
It's going to be a long journey, I hope we both make it out with a real live, healthy baby, I really do.

What a freaking rollercoaster for your head. All I'm going to say is congratulations on the heartbeat. And I'll leave it at that.

Antropóloga said...

Awww. Fuck! Can I tell you to just put it out of your head? No? But seriously it plays to me more like a bad anecdote than a harbinger of doom.

CLC said...

Let's not look for any meaning here. Just choose to believe it means nothing. You have to take it one day at a time. I second Kalakaly's comment.

luna said...

freaky. but I like k@lakly's comments a la freud.

besides, the cat could have been like 21 yrs old or something.

I don't really believe it means anything, but it is very strange. They had taken the cat to the vet, who told them it was about 2 years old and seemingly in good health.

Wow. Speechless again and covered in goosebumps.

Oh poor kitty. Maybe it ate something bad while outside.

I'm glad you don't think it means anything. Neither do I.

Tash said...

I just asked my cat, and he said he'd eat pretty much anything, antifreeze and rat poison included, just for kicks. They seem smart, but not so much. And provided the uterus at the point has those things locked up and put away, I'm going with lousy judgment and poor timing, not universal message.

And lousy judgment and poor timing are my HALLMARKS so I know of what I speak.

I'm going with the dead cat is just a dead cat theme. Or a conspiracy of the cat world to play with your mind - I wouldn't put it past the cats I know.

Maybe connecting cats to babies is the same as hearing hoofbeats and thinking zebras.

I won't be uncrossing my fingers anytime soon. Because hoping when you're not the one who loses is a whole lot easier.

Mrs. Spit said...

I'm thinking cats and babies are like fish and bicycles.

I wouldn't invest much into a cat. Mine won't even eat bugs. . .

Bon said...

oy again. this is why coincidences always leave me looking away, pretending i can't see...

Rachel said...

Whoa. Wish I had more to add than that. I guess we all just never know what we're going to get until it actually happens?

That is so freaky. I don't even know what to say. But, I think the cat is only worth so much as a symbolic representation of your baby, and some things just aren't symbols. In poetry, the woods might represent sex or destruction or evil...but sometimes, they're just woods, nothing more. Maybe that cat was just a cat, nothing more.

Holy $#@
Here's hoping the cat is taking it for the team.

Oh niobe. What a damn mindfuck. But you know what? One does not equal the other.

*hugs to you*

(trust me, I'm talking myself off ledges all over the place)

Monica H said...

oh no! I understand why you may think this, becauswe I try to find hidden messages in things, but I believe that those 2 dead cats have nothing to do with you.

Aurelia said...

OMG, well they are definitely not related...really.

You need to keep those thoughts out of your head! PLEASE!

Wow, huh. You certainly live the life full of signs.

I'm hoping the cat was just a cat although it is damn spooky.

Azaera said...

Very creepy. And I kind of know how you feel about the due date thing, mine is due on the exact day I miscarried my last one.. I don't think the cat thing means anything about your baby, if anything I'd say your brother is the one with the bad luck, to have a twice dead cat..

painted maypole said...

that's awful.

but I'm with thailand chani. don't let your mind sit on those thoughts. a cat is not an oracle, delphic or otherwise. ;)

LawMommy said...

Well, much of me wants to just say that this cat has nothing to do with your baby and leave it at that.

But, I tend to agree with the comments left by Sweet Salty Kate and the Anonymous "d". (who commented about Japan and the mizuko) on the cat post...

So, I'm just going to say that this cat, in my humble opinion, has nothing to do with mizuko. And also add that I continue to cross my fingers and toes and the like, for you.

ouch.

Well god fucking shit. I mean, obviously in the logical sense of mind we can all agree about cigars and cats being, quite often, cigars and cats. But hell, it wouldn't hurt to get a little encouragement now and then, huh Universe?

I am shamefully and unforgivably behind in reading your posts.

First, much belated congrats on the BFP and the promising test results!! I have to admit that I was expecting good news even though it looked bleak before the test.

I agree 200% with your analysis that the same due date indicates an attempt by one of the twins to come into your life. I believe in an unusual version of reincarnation and this situation fits it perfectly. Serenity's feelings about Baby O fit somewhat to. She believes that Baby O tried for a long time to come into this world before doing so successfully. I mean, why not?

I can't even imagine the fear you must be carrying around. I was absolutely terrified in those early weeks and also did not find the stats to be comforting even though I have not endured even a fraction of the pain and loss that you have. Your only friend at this point is the damn clock. I will ask the universe to make the time proceed smoothly and with much success..

XOXO

The cycle of life is happening all around us... I'm sorry it was a such a reminder of the sad part of the cycle right on your doorstep.

Sarah said...

i know what you mean about feeling like one is trying to come back. sounds a little creepy but it is sort of comforting. and it can be such a strong feeling that even a chronic non-believer like me (in anything) can be convinced there is some sort of spirit in all of us that exists separately from the body. i hope you are finding it comforting too.

I am sorry the world seems to be messing with you.

Neil Gaiman has a story about a cat who was actually an angel and fought the devil every night, getting more and more torn up. Maybe the message is that someone is looking out for you.
