material girl

CRW_3505
I don't usually think of myself as greedy, but over the last day or two, I've found myself considering: an artichoke-colored couch for the tv room, three sparkly pendant lights to hang over the dining room table, a neutral-ish geometric-esque patterned rug for the living room, a plain rug for the front room to replace the one I just had to throw out, white hexagonal tiles for the second floor bathroom.

The other thing I've been considering is all the thoughtful comments you left on the post about surrogacy that I put up last week at Glow in the Woods. I appreciate your support and I've been thinking about your questions, and I'm going to try to get back to you on some of them as soon as I've worked through them in my own mind.

Ooh I've been doing that home decor thing too! Now that we're getting a whole different house to live in, we actually do need some new stuff, but I'm also looking at a lot of things we don't *need*.

Off to read your post...

I read your post at Glow in the Woods. My only thought about surrogacy is the surrogate and how she feels after handing over your child to you. I haven't done any research, so I don't know if this is hard for her or not. In your case, I think it is a very good idea.

I've been thinking about you.

We bought some new fun furniture-type stuff when the Sergeant was home on leave. I am always dreaming about what I can do when we actually have a house of our own, though..

I was thinking about hexes for my mud room, and was talked out of it. Too much wear and tear, I guess. But I love that look.

As for the post: I tried to put my head in a different place in order to drum up what could be some criticism on the subject, but obviously I'm in such a different place now that it was to even imagine.

I never much liked artichokes.

antigone: I don't think I've ever felt more grown up and sophisticated than when I was about four or five and my parents taught me to to eat artichokes.

Plus, I've always loved the French idiom "to have an arichoke heart," that is, I assume, one that's easily peeled.

I've been in an artichoke hued phase for a while now, so perhaps it's already passe. I'm not a style setter.

I had a visit with a friend this weekend and was very interested in her situation, from a legal standpoint. She is in a civil union (CT), and she had a baby this year (through IVF), whom her partner adopted. She has two embryos left, and her partner wants to try to carry a baby, so my friend will have to make a legal arrangement to allow her partner to take over the embryos, then would have to adopt any resulting child(ren), although she's the one genetically related to them. They were both very enthusiastic and had not encountered any difficulties either with doctors or probate court. So far. Sorry if this is not interesting to you. It's the HOW to make it happen that captured my interest.

The couch I have been living on is showing the signs of wear. It's tearing, frankly. So I suppose I will have to consider replacement at some point. I also have this thing where I feel like things are still new, and then realize that no, it's been years. This is the story with almost all the furniture in this house-- it's all over 6 years old. I guess other things have held up better than this particular couch.
And JD is coveting a new TV...

sounds like nesting to me, and that's a good thing

I was going to say what PM said.

Sounds like nesting to me as well. These decor ideas sound lovely!

you know, I am sooo in denial that the nesting explanation never crossed my mind.

I think you are nesting in your own way. =)
