bubbles

I have a few clear plastic ball-type things lying around the coffee table and, the other day, I decided to take some pictures of them. What I was thinking of was Mr. Bubble -- that iconic bath foam (in a pink box! with lanolin!) that, the commercials promised, "made getting clean almost as much fun as getting dirty."

But what I got instead was this kind of dark and unsettling image. I can't be the only one who sees that evil face leering in the background. Which, come to think of it, is not entirely dissimilar from the original Mr. Bubble himself

And which segues nicely into a link to one of my favorite economics blogs (I know, I know), The Housing Bubble Blog, which chronicles, mostly with a thinly-veiled hand-rubbing glee, the collapse of the US housing market. Read it and -- if you're a homeowner -- weep.

You need a funny in these troubled times. (But if you bring up the South Sea Bubble, I may declare true love.) Try:

he does vaguely resemble Mr. Bubble...but i agree with Karen, he looks sad, malproportioned, askew.

we bought a cheap house. even if it means we squeeze ourselves into it for the rest of our lives, i'm starting to think my cheapness may be a quality with increasing usefulness.

So far the housing bubble has stayed south of the border. It sickens me to see what so many Americans are going through right now.

That face reminds me of a sugar skull from dia de los muertos.

Allypally: That's pretty much exactly what I was thinking.

Have you ever bumped into Galsworthy? Makes me think of the white monkey.

My 6yo son says it's a skeleton. So, perhaps not so scary? We are all bones beneath the skin ...

So what is that, there, in the background? In real life? Do you know what made that robot/bubble man/sugar skull?

which box: I have absolutely NO idea (cue eerie music)

Yep, I worry about my American friends as well. So far, we're just seeing a slowdown in the economy overall, but we don't have wholesale home losses like in the US.

So are you okay? I kind of keep hoping that some people in the US are on an even keel.

Umm, don't see the face. Weirdo.

I'm kind of weird, too, 'cause I'm kind of digging this recession thing. I like a challenge. But then again, I'm all conservative (read, frugal. stingy) with money, so we're not hurting. Couldn't be fun for those who are.
