a few small things that are currently detracting from my quality of life

  • There's a unit meeting this morning.

  • I really need to get my hair cut. And highlighted.

  • I had my office furniture rearranged, but now I'm thinking that the original arrangement was actually preferable.

  • Due to the decidedly non-central location of my office building, if I decide that I want a second latte (which I almost never do, but am kind of considering today), I'll have to walk for blocks and blocks and blocks. In the rain. And I don't like umbrellas. Or getting wet.

  • I lost one of my favorite earrings and I'm too lazy to look for it and I can't remember where I bought it.

  • I seem to have developed an allegy to metal, so I probably shouldn't wear any of my earrings anyway.

  • If I don't post this now I'm going to be late to the unit meeting.

  • We never have good bagels at our unit meetings. (Although (silver lining!) I'm not hungry anyway).

What minor issues are troubling you today?

A doctor's appointment to see if my ovaries have finally given up the ghost.

I have to pee but I don't want to get up from the couch.

I have to fill up my calendar with more endless appointments.

I have filing to do, but I'd rather throw away the paper, and pretend it was filed.

Well, I'm stuck in a rather unfortunate disagreement between two of our partners. The have both told me to do something, which is the exact opposite of what the other has instructed me to do. What's a girl to do?

I found a check under my desk from May of this year...not sure how it got under there, it's made out to my employer...don't suppose the bank will let us deposit it now, do you think?

Don't walk for blocks in the rain. Surely you have a box of tea in your desk, somewhere, right?

Amanda: Sigh. That doesn't sound like much fun. Or all that minor.

Lawmommy: Good point. I do have tea in my desk, as it happens. Problem solved.

I am not awake enough yet to even know what is on my list. What's today?

Oh good! I am feeling highly fussy today.

*I had to renew my NRP yesterday all day. And I was scheduled to work all night.

*I got to come home from work about 2:30 AM (that was good) and I got an extra few hours added to my day to get things done that I didn't expect (also good)

*I am STILL AWAKE and exhausted. And I really don't have a whole lot to show for the fact that I got a few extra hours added to my day.

*I always feel like a jerk when I whine for not very good reasons.

*I think I need to go to the doctor and have my thyroid levels checked. And I have a distinct feeling that I have hypothyroidism, which is annoying.

-waiting for an ultrasound to determine if the multiple period issue is something to worry about.

-small child who won't stay in her own bed

-potential loss of my job and/or spouse

-my father eats all the meat in the house so we have nothing. So I have to have akward conversation.

Other than that, we're good. and there's no latte's near work here either. :(

I have to go to the bank at lunch, and the heels I'm wearing are slightly higher than normal making walking quickly a feat (no pun intended), it's cold enough out that I will have to wear a coat (which I hate doing), and it's kind of drizzly outside.

Also, I can't be bothered to wash out my mug that held my morning hot chocolate. The office kitchen is just so far....

The same rain that is troubling you is troubling me. I was going to run my too-big snow boots to the post office to ship back to Land's End, but seeing as there's a small monsoon going on outside, that's just going to have to wait.

Which scares me a little, since there's A CHANCE OF SNOW TOMORROW NIGHT.

Oh, Niobe, I'm so not ready to be living up here...

My socks are kind of itchy. One of the ribs broke on my umbrella. My left foot just fell asleep. I can never remember how to spell "prof[f?]icient" - is it one f or two? Will mispelling this word result in my grant application being denied? Did I just mispell "mis[s?]spell?" What the hell? I used to win spelling bees. Now everything I type looks wrong.

It's one of THOSE days, isn't it?

I have a pain in my ride side (like a running stitch) that just won't go away.

I don't have a book to read. I've read every one in the house.

I have to go to the grocery store, it's cold out and I don't own a coat that will go over my belly.

On that same note, I don't want to spend money on a coat to go over my belly when halfway through the winter I won't need it anymore.

Why is it the little things always add up?

My shift key has fallen off of my laptop. How incredibly annoying. A hint for your metal earrings, it may be a nickel allergy, which is fairly common, either way a temporary fix is to coat ti the earring near your ear and the backing with clear nail polish. Works well, but does need to be redone eventually.

Patti: I can't help with the stitch in the side or the lack of a tummy-covering coat. But if give me some idea of what kind of book you're looking for and email me your address, I might be able to send you one or two. We're desparately trying to get rid of some of our many, many excess books.

Melissia: Sorry to hear that you're (let's hope temporarily) shiftless. I'll give the nail polish thing a try. Thanks!

I have medical bills for several hundred dollars. The insurance company just didn't pay for them, and now I have to figure out why and nag them. If they won't, I will have to pay them, and I can scrape up the money that I had other plans for.

If you were to get a really cute umbrella, maybe you wouldn't mind them so much.

I'm worried about the plates and napkins I bought for Z's birthday party. I've now bought two sets, and I'm trying to decide which (or if) to return. I'm also thinking maybe I need a real tablecloth. Not the cheapy plastic one I got from the party store. And I'm worried about how I'm going to get people to sort their recyclables at the party without seeming like too much of a hovering nag. And I'm worried that I didn't get enough food. Or the right kind of food. Or drink. And should I have some alcohol, just in case? Because I always wanted to be the type of parent to have alcohol at a kid's birthday party. And I might need some. I think I invited too many people. This is why I don't throw parties.

- i'm bored

- i'm hungry

- i'm stiff

- and although it isn't minor, since you asked in such a nice way, I'm really troubled by my adulterous husband wanting to reconcile and me wanting it more than I feel I should

niobe said...

Hennifer: Not that you asked me and not that I have any particular insight into your situation . . .

But I think that in most (though certainly not all) cases, it's not a bad idea to at least consider reconciling. Even if, in the end, you decide against it.

My husband left today. Again. He's a truck driver, so I should be used to it. Except he was home for 5 days straight, so now the kids and I are particularly grouchy, rather than just garden variety bummed out.

I've found - to my utter dismay - that coffee is no longer worth the effort when I have no one to share it with. For awhile there, I drank it regardless of the circumstance, and I liked being a coffee fiend, but now... not so much. Drinking green tea just doesn't seem to be as much fun.

I keep getting notified of a new obnoxious round of spam hitting my inbox. I should go to my inbox and find a way to make it stop, but that seems like an awfully involved thing to do right now.

And I assume the same rain that is annoying you is annoying me... despite the fact that I live in AZ. I really wanted to watch the Phillies beat the Rays with said husband, 'cause he grew up in Philly and is a rabid fan of all of their sports franchises. But now he won't get to watch them win the series, cause he had to go, and I won't get to watch him watch them. He would've been pretty cute.

I'm so glad that you have THESE things to worry about and not other BIG things!

my minor things are:
craving my no sugar added soft serve frozen yogurt that is all the way downtown

having to actually mail a couple of checks out to pay 2 bills I can't do online....

We took tiny pumpkins out to the cemetery to write their names on them and we ran out. We were 2 pumpkins short- bummer.

But 40 babies got pumpkins!

that i just wanted to curl up in my closet to cry rather than show up at work...

I didn't want to pack a lunch

I had to face people at work that knew what happened

But then I saw a penguin out on the harbour while I was rowing and I think that made today worth fighting for.

Hope your day wasn't too intense:)

It's raining. And cold. And I have to ride a long detour in the bus to pick up something, which happens to be in one of the (few) poorly connected spots of the city.
