all the answers

  • She's doing very well. She went home yesterday. After watching the baby sleep, Kyrie and Arianna's son, Caden, kept asking if he could have a little brother too. Arianna told him that that sounded like a wonderful idea.

  • 3:46 am.

  • It's almost as though, Sliding Doors-style, I've woken up in a parallel universe where everything worked out the way I wanted it to.

  • Probably later today. With any luck, before the start of the predicted snowstorm.

  • Cole. But, as you probably already figured out, that's only a pseudonym, so ixnay on the personalized, hand-embroidered spit-up towels.

  • Nine pounds, two ounces. (4145 grams).

If you have any other questions, just leave them in the comments and I'll try to answer them.

And thank you all so much for your congratulations, thoughts and good wishes. They mean more to me than I can possibly say.

9 lbs, 2oz??? My jaw. It dropped. Niobe, this just brought tears to my eyes. I am so, so happy for you. It's such an understatement, but there is no existing word to describe just how happy (and relieved) that I am for you. It is ineffable. So uummm...pass the torch this way if you could, please. If only it was that easy, right?

No questions--just lots of HUGS!!! :)

Would you like a pair of these, would be my pleasure to make and send you some.

Niobe, how exciting. I'm so happy for you sweets. When do we get to see him?

Anonymous said...

I'm echoing Sara - his audience demands pictures :)

Is he at home with you now? Or will he be, soon?

cinnamon gurl said...

Will you email me his real name?

Other than that, enjoy!

thordora said...

I'd SQUISH you if I was there!

Actually, likely not since I hate it when people touch me. :P

I'm so happy and excited for you-even the sleep you wont have over the next few months.

And yes, pictures. And blessings to Kyrie.

Whew.
Wonderful....
Congratulations, Mama.
I also would love to know his real name, as well as see a couple pics.
Very happy for you.

I neglected to say it the first time, so I'll say it now - many many good wishes to Kyrie. What a gift... and a nine-pound one to boot. Big smiles!

Yea!

Hooray.

What wonderful news.

Love and peace to all...

Ahhh.

I feel complete now.

Expect a package on Monday or Tuesday. No personalizations.

Nine pounds! wow!

I'm glad Kyrie is okay and gone home safely, but do keep us up to date if you hear anything from her. Hmm, as for questions?

Gray's reaction?

L's reaction?

How long are you taking off of work?

Are you hiring some help, or is L. able to take some time off as well?

And can we help you do any of that shopping? My hand-embroidery sucks but my credit card works.

Sliding doors is apt--but take care of yourself, feelings can yaw and pitch around that in the first little while.

S said...

oh, and kyrie was awesome. kudos to her.

and, uh, real name, please? at your leisure. i won't tell.

moplans said...

Congratulations Niobe, I like his pseudonym.

I was worried that the hospital discharged Kyrie but not Cole. Is that usual in the US?

Anonymous said...

How wonderful! *hug*

Cara said...

Cole - a perfect psydonym. And 9lbs 2oz? Wowsers, they grow em big these days, huh?

Congrats!!!

I still jump a meter when I see you updated.

niobe said...

Lisa B: No, that's not the way it usually works. But, though Cole's fine, he can't be discharged until there's a doctor available to personally sign the papers. So, far, every time we've been to the hospital, all the doctors have been busy.

So, basically, I have to go there today and just sit around until someone becomes available. Which should give me the chance to take a few pictures.

Kym: He seems huge to me, but Kyrie's son, Caden, was 9 lbs, 12 oz....

Katie: Thank you! I would absolutely love them.

Aurelia: I think we're all kind of in shock. I'm not sure yet what my work schedule is going to look like. When Gray was born, even though I had planned a much longer leave, I changed my mind and was back at work by the time he was five weeks old. And I'm going out to do a little more shopping now and a few friends are stopping by with stuff that I can borrow. Which is a good thing, since we're starting with absolutely nothing.

Congrats! and Welcome baby!

Must've been a pretty easy birth if a little brother for Caden is already being discussed. That's great.

So, so happy that you've found the right door.

I can't think of any questions that haven't already been asked; I just want to hear everything that you're willing to share.

Amy said...

Glad everything turned out like it's supposed to for you! Hope that Caden gets his own brother some day! Also, hope that "sliding door" keeps going in the direction in which it is supposed to for you.

Best wishes and congratulations!

Wow. I'm still just so, so happy. For you and everybody. Cole is a lovely pseudonym :-)

P.S. 9 lbs, 2 oz?!? GO Kyrie!

CLC said...

Wow, go Kyrie for producing big babies!! How's she doing? I am not sure how to imagine how she feels. She's my hero! Will you keep in touch with her?

And I am so happy for you Niobe. I hope he comes home today and I would love to see a picture of him too!

There is so much to be thankful for. I love those term big babies. It is so hard to wait for many reasons that you all know, that there really aren't that many in the newborn nursery these days. I imagine that the nurses aren't anxious to see him go, a healthy little guy who can eat well and do all the things a term baby does. Trust me it is a joy to take care of these guys as a reminder of everything that goes just right.
I am so happy that you will have this experience; a bright, alert little boy who can engage the world in his own newborn way.

Glad Caden is handling it all so well too. Here's to second chances.

How does surrogacy work in terms of after the birth? The surrogate got sent home and the baby is released to you? Is there a legal document you have to provide to the hospital? What does the birth certificate look like?

ewe are here said...

Over 9 pounds?!? Well done, you!

And perhaps a baby name clue or two so we could figure out the lovely name you've chosen and yet not have it published on your blog would be fun...? ;-)

Clarabella said...

Big Boy! Have fun.

9+ lbs? Her poor bajingo. I hurt just thinking about it and Baby S was a mere 6 lbs, 3 ozs.

I think the feeling of being in a parallel universe is very common among new parents.

To say that I am happy for you is a dramatic understatement, but those are the only words that seem close.

Carly Marie said...

I just wanted to say Congratulations to Kyrie.

What an amazing thing she has. I presume that she maybe feeling empty, literally and emotionally. I could be wrong though. I wanted to just send her my love anyway.

Enjoy the time you are at the hospital even though I know you are probably aching to leave with your little guy.

I am so relieved for you.

First, HUGE congratulations! I don't know that I could be more relieved/excited for someone I don't even really know.

Can I beg you to please give us more details than you usually do in your upcoming posts. I think it might kill me if you approach this child's early days with the same vague/murky/tantalizingly obtuse way you approach everything else. Seriously, it might kill me.

I'm dying to see a picture. Dying. (Have I been dramatic enough to prompt you to feed us some more details?)

A second YAY! That is all.

Oh and a picture might be nice.

the idea of you out shopping today for baby stuff, and sitting around the hospital waiting for a doc to sign him out so you can bring him HOME...those are nice things, Niobe, things that make me smile way up here.

and thanks for teaching me how to spell ixnay - I've never seen it in print - even when you are posting your most exciting news you find ways to teach us things.

Furrow: Actually, Kryie and Arianna's plan is that Arianna will be the one who'll be pregnant with Caden's little brother or sister. And, yes, the goal is to go forward with that (and buying a new house for all of them) right away.

Eva: We're all eating and sleeping fine for the moment. But I'm sure that we've got many sleep-deprived nights ahead...

CLC: Kyrie and I have talked about it and, while I'd love to stay in touch, she's said that she's not sure what she's going to be comfortable with. So, I'm basically going to leave it up to her.

Carly: I think you're absolutely right. She's told me that she really wants to focus on the next steps in her life -- new house, new job, trying for a new addition to her family.

Christine: Yes, we got Kyrie a necklace with a single pearl. I didn't tell her because I didn't want her to feel any kind of pressure to stay in touch (see answers to CLC and Carly above), but I got one
just like it for myself. I think of it as kind of symbolic of our bond and whenever I wear it, I'll think of her....

Aunt Becky: What an incredibly generous thought. We really don't have anything, so, if you really wanted to send something, basics like receiving blankets or socks or hats would be very much appreciated.

My Reality: Honestly, I'm still in shock. After all this time, it's impossible to believe that this is real...

Thalia said...

Congratulations to all of you, Niobe, sorry I didn't say that before.

I agree with an earlier poster, I immediately thought of 'old king cole' - what made you chose this moniker?

I'm so glad all is ok. Hope you've got him home now.

Cassie said...

Congratulations! I'm so happy for you. If you would like a little monkey for Cole, just send me an email.
