useful advice
I wanted to make sure I thanked everyone* for their thoughts on day care. (check out the comments to the post for some interesting perspectives, as well as lists of things to look for and questions to ask).
I found a list of home day cares in my town that have been accredited by the state (thanks, Rachel) and have been going down the list, interviewing the ones with space for infant. Maybe it's because I have an older kid, who had his share of less-than-ideal child care situations, but seems to have turned out just fine, but I'm pretty relaxed about the whole thing and feel pretty confident that I'll be able to find something I'm happy with.

I forgot to leave a comment on the previous post about daycare but I did think everything everyone said was good.
I've used nannies, home daycare, and a daycare centre as well as being home with my kids, and really, they all have their advantages and disadvantages. The issue isn't so much one vs the other, but the quality of what you pick. Like for now, taking Cole to daycare may be perfect, because it's just him. But if you do have another baby through another surrogate situation, you might not want to schlep two of them in the winter and snow.
Or like it was for us--when you are paying for two young kids, the cost of daycare just might be dramatically more than a nanny. Here it is for sure. Infant to toddler daycare is anywhere from 1400-2000/month each in a centre and almost the same for a licensed home daycare. Whereas a nanny, who can also tidy up the house during naps or get dinner ready to go on the table, is anywhere from 1500 to 2500/month and that covers all the kids.
We do have some subsidized spots for the poor, and in Quebec, if you can get a spot, they have daycare for everyone that only costs $7/day! Awesome...
I have to say, I didn't think I'd be into a nanny because I'd heard horror stories, but I love them now. It's all about finding the right person.

What a gorgeous photo, he is adorable, Niobe. Glad you have found some possibilities for day care and that you are relaxed about it. It's nice to read that you can end up being relaxed about stuff. I always thought I would be a relaxed mum. Now I am not so sure.
