love and socks

Somehow Kristin at Dragondreamer's Lair knows that I have a unmanageable phobic reaction to don't particularly care for socks. The way they cling to your insteps! The (shudder) toe seams! The horror! The horror!*

Which is no doubt why, for the sock exchange masterminded by The Amazing Kym, I received, not socks, but a gorgeous scarf and hat, hand-knit (!) by Kristin.

Not only are they a lovely combination of colors, but, which you can't tell from this picture because of the way I've folded them, the stitches are all beautifully even. Unlike, for example, the quote scarf unquote that I'm pretty sure is the only thing I ever attempted to knit.

And when I pull the hat down over my ears and wrap the scarf around my neck, I feel warm and comforted. Which is the perfect metaphor for the community -- by which I mean all of you -- that I've found on the internet.

While not everyone's sock exchange photos have been posted yet, be sure to check out Kym's place this week for links to lots of socks and bloggy love.

*Why, yes, I do have, um, issues. What makes you ask?

eta: In the comments, both Charmy and Furrow confess that they too hate socks. (Well, tights, in Furrow's case, but close enough). Words cannot express how much I love you both. Because, honestly, most people just giggle and point.

I am so glad you like them Niobe. It was a total guess with the color but I loved them so I hoped you would too.

Charmy: I think I'm in love with you. I've never, ever met anyone else who understood my sock aversion.

I feel that way about pantyhose/tights. So what does a sockphobic do in winter?

I'm so glad it's (sort of) warm enough to do without socks. Right now, I'm barefoot at my desk...

We have a hate/hate relationship with socks round these parts. There are many small cries of "my socks are too wiggly" and alternative variations. Sandal season can't come soon enough!!!

I would really rather be barefoot all the time, but my feet are always freezing. Once it is warm enough to wear sandals, the socks go away for the summer. I will and do wear socks. Because I hate cold feet. But underwear are a totally different story.

I got a scarf from Kristin and it's so soft and LONG! I could wrap it around my neck and there's enough to hang down. It's my favorite scarf, by far! Glad she knew you had a sock aversion.

Oh, you said something so sentimental and warm and fuzzy! Cute.

Well you know, I never wear socks. I hate the way my feet feel inside of them, all cramped up and sweaty. I get lots of comments about not wearing socks here(Belgium). I wear closed back clogs (because I hate laces too) and all the ladies in my ceramic class think I'm whacko and tell me I'm going to catch a cold if I don't wear socks. And sometimes my feet are cold, but for me it's better than wearing socks.

PS I am not mentioning your condiment aversion ;).

Yay, Cara and Ally for joining my Anti-Socks Association!

And many thanks, Ally, for not mentioning my, um, other aversion. Or one of them. Because I have lots and lots of them.

One of which sounds like it may be shared with My Reality. Shall we start the Commando Club?

Add me to the Commando Club. I can deal with undergarments during the day while out in public, but at home it's an oversized pair of sweats or yoga pants and that's the end of it.

I love socks and usually can't stand to be without them when I'm in the house, but I do love a good pair of sandals in the summer (sockless, of course, so as not to look like a crotchety old fogey). But pantyhose? Yikes. When was the last time I stuffed my thunder thighs in a pair of those? I hated them even when I was skinny. I've loathed them since birth, I think. I just hate they way they never seem to fit right around the crotch area and I end up feeling more penguin than woman.

I hate socks. Evil, horrible things. Fascist, toe squeazy, ankle binding things. Hate.

Hate socks. HATE. I never wear them, even in winter here in the rainy pacific northwest. I don't care who stares! The ONLY time I wear them is if we are going somewhere in the snow. My youngest son (7) HATES them too. He always whips them off first thing after school. We also have a daily battle to make him wear underwear to school. I am terrified that his pants will fall down or sag down in the back and someone will find out...then I'll be the BAD MOM. haha.
