it is written

The ancient Romans discerned the will of the gods by studying the flight of birds (auspices) or the entrails of sacrificial animals (haruspices). But I've discovered that the way the gods speak to me is through the vanity plate on the next car over.

The long and the short of it is that the transfer went well, though for a few panicked minutes there, I was afraid that it wouldn't go at all.

However, after a brief detour to the urgent care unit for a slightly sprained ankle (mine) and a pair of crutches (also mine), a mix-up about signatures that led to a frantic internet search (not mine) and an equally frantic call (mine again) to try to pull someone out of a yoga class, the only thing left to do is wait.

And that license plate? Entripy. Spelled just like that.

I'm going to assume the person could indeed spell, and "ENTROPY" was already taken. Although I see a case for anything "trippy."

And ow? Yay for the transfer; boo for the ankle. Feet up to both of you!

Oh my *gosh* can you NEVER just tell the whole story??!! *Sigh*

Well. Sucks about the ankle. And the other chaos. Sounds like you all had quite a day! Glad the transfer, at least - eventually - went well. :) Was thinking about you!

Entrippy, indeed! Hope that ankle heals up nice and quick.

Yay on the transfer!

I hope the ankle is better soon. Glad the transfer was a go after the day you had.

Glad everything went well. Sorry about the ankle - hopefully that will heal soon.

Glad the transfer went through. And, BOOO HISS to the hurt ankle.

Vanity license plates, eh? Well, I get birds on my windowsill, so whatever works.

My very favorite license plate ever was ENTROPY (yes, spelled right).

Glad the transfer went well, I'll be thinking of you and her.

And I'm sorry about your ankle. Did you see that Jane Brody wrote about ankle sprains in the Times today? Rest, Ice, Compression, Elevation.

Fingers crossed, eh!

Daymn. A pretty sight it must be over at your house tonight, with twice the expected number of feet up and all.
We'll wait with you, though, if it helps any.

Vanity plates sound much less messy than haruspices, at least. Hoping for you.

So, the bad luck has fallen on your ankle, and the good one has remained intact for the rest of the visit to the hospital. Sorry for the ankle!

I think that the vanity plate is surely a sign of luck...entropy is disorder, which by law is always increasing. And what more fabulous disorder in you universe could there be than another little person for you?! My fingers are crossed tightly for healed ankles and successful transfers!

you're ballsy, niobe. no doubt about that. f-ing 2ww is the worst of all time. is it easier when it's not you brewing (or not)? (don't know why i asked that, i can hear your fingers typing 'nope...i just forget all about it!' in a julia child voice. OR...OR...do you remember that 'set it and forget it' infomercial for the rotisserie oven?!?) i don't mean to be an ass; i really really hope it works.

on the vanity plates: we saw one after my transfer of three embryos, towards the end of the 2ww when i was feeling as equally terrified for a negative as i did for triplets. the plate read: YNOT3. and...yeah.

i'm glad it went well.

Maggie: Can I tell you much I *love* that interpretation?

Tash & Angie: Yeah, it was the combo of "trippy" and "entropy" that, y'know, spoke to me.

Charmy: Well, I guess it is easier in some ways, since I don't have any symptoms (real or imaginary) to obsess over. And, while I really, really hope this works, I'm very much hoping I don't see that YNOT3 plate.

In the theatre world they always say, "break a leg" before the play begins. Perhaps this sprained ankle is the overture to what will be a wonderful production.

What a day. Nothing can be simple, can it? But glad the transfer went well! Hope your ankle heals soon.

Totally trippy, but what a great story to tell a child someday. Hope your ankle heals quickly.

Nothing is ever EVER simple. Hang in there, niobe.

thinking of you - maybe sprain an ankle will be the new transfer good luck call. 2ww. Yes, somehow I bet croissants and wasn't there some sort of yummy cookie involved last time? - in any case, made the whole thing more bearable. HAng in there. Or, um, rest in there!

Hi! thanks for stopping by my blog!! i have tried to learn a bit more about your story, but your posts a pretty criptic! All the very best for this 2ww you know where to find me if you want to share the madness! love, Fran

Fingers crossed for Trish and you.

Hopefully the more we get to spend time together, the more my calm, zen-ness will rub off on you :)
I had no doubts that all would be well yesterday. It just felt like the right place and the right time.
I don't normally panic, I really just always assume that all will turn out well. I guess it is easy for me to be calm- I don't have nearly as much at stake!
I'm glad that it did all turn out well, and I still feel great.

Trish said...

oh- and that calmness is always greater when hubby is there. He is always able to take care of anything- no matter what it is. Did I mention that I would be lost without him?

Fingers crossed.

Can't top the wittiness that's already been commented here! Hurray on the transfer!!

see? you're an optimist somewhere in your little black heart. me, i'd have just seen the misspelling and cried or the future of humankind in general.

glad it went. hoping. and hoping the crutches prove perhaps an interesting distraction from waiting?

moplans said...

woohoo! fingers crossed this is an exciting beginning.

Also, this post makes me sad that our license plates are so boring. Though I'm not looking for YNOT3 either.

Hey--look at it this way - your ankle incident sucked up all the possible bad luck for the day, so your transfer was probably a huge success!!!
Hope it heals soon :)

Hope your transfer goes "swimmingly" well :)

Boo on the whole ankle thing...

I, on the other hand, associate the concept of entropy with death.

From one of my favorite Asimov stories: "Entropy, little sweet, is just a word which means the amount of running-down of the universe. Everything runs down, you know, like your little walkie-talkie robot, remember?"

"Can't you just put in a new power-unit, like with my robot?"

"The stars are the power-units, dear. Once they're gone, there are no more power-units."
