wait and see

The short version: encouraging signs, but too early to tell.

The slightly less short version: two gestational sacs, two yolk sacs, one heartbeat, but, since it's only approximately 5w4d, they were unable to get measurements or to track the actual heart rate.

The next step: Repeat ultrasound in about two weeks. At that point, we should be able to get a much better read on whether this is a viable pregnancy.

The conclusion (couched in Magic 8 Ball speak*): Reply hazy, try again. Or, perhaps, better not to tell you now, depending on your point of view.

*If you're wondering what lies in your future, just click on the link and the Magic 8 Ball will answer your question. Magically.

Waiting with you... must be frustrating...

I am so hopeful for you! Can't wait for the results in two weeks :)

(I asked the 8 ball if I would ever have a baby and it said "very doubtful"... twice in a row. I should have known better.)

I know this probably won't help you much or make you feel any better but i was watching national geographic or discovery channels bit about multiples the other night and most people start out as twins! They think that this is the cause for most left handed people. Since they are mirror images of the twin that would've been.

I wish you the best of luck! Stay positive.

Cautiously optimistic and waiting with you...

That 8 ball will not give me any information (and after 2 "cannot predict now" answers it told me to "ask again later." I guess my future has not yet been determined).

*Definitely* an encouraging sign to detect a heartbeat, especially so early!

Thinking about you both over the next 2 weeks, I'm sure they'll feel quite long.

This is why I always passed on the early u/s and skipped right to 8w: no fuzziness.

Boy did that work out well for me, huh.

Hanging with ya.

Sunny said...

"Cannot predict now." DAMN IT!

Cheering for your heartbeat, praying for the other little on.

We are waiting until 7 weeks for our u/s in the hopes that it gives us a definite answer. But MAN it is hard to wait.

Eeeee! This sounds pretty good!

Furrow said...

ugh. what a long wait that will be. But sounds great so far! We had one of those super early u/s last time, and it was torture having to wait another week for a hb.

No magic 8 ball for me, thank you. Nuh uh. But the online i-ching reading last week was right on.

Magpie said...

Argh. The waiting must be killing you.

I'll think good happy growing heart-beaty thoughts for you.

The waiting is making me stabby and mean.

"it is decidedly so"

waiting with you and beaming all kinds of positivity to locations up and up.

Thanks for the update. Can you take a distracting trip for the next 13 days?

Hoping it all turns out well. Have to say I have had it with early scans - no earlier than 9w for me from now on (I should be so lucky).

Sue said...

At 4w5d we saw nothing, 5w4d saw two gestational sacs, no heartbeat, no poles or egg sacs. It was the 6w4d that showed healthy heartbeats on both.

5w4d *is* really early. Fingers crossed and outlook cautiously optimistic for you.

Here's a personal question (which I would not take any offense if you chose not to answer): how are you feeling about the possibility of twins again?

Thinking of you and your family.

I asked the magic 8 ball if I am going to have two babies for "your name here". It said "yes, definitely". I'm not making that up- It really did!

Fingers crossed.

Oh My! That is encouraging. It looks like a whole lot more of 'jeez it's hot' and 'how bout them sox' kind of conversations...I guess.

Hang in! Rooting for you. ((hugs))

Fingers crossed for you Niobe!

Oh, I've been through the tourture of the early US. Blech.

Having one HB this early is very encouraging!! Indeed!

Oh my word, Niobe, I would be so stressed. Actually I am so stressed just reading this. It's so exciting but with our backgrounds, we just don't buy into exciting anymore. And there is no way I'm going to the Magic 8 Ball. I just don't want to know about my future.

6 weeks, 4 days was the magic timeframe for both of my pregnancies. I hope the next two weeks pass quickly.

I leave on vacation and now there are two sacks! My RE would only do first scans after 6 weeks.

p.s. I *knew* there were two sacs already, though, even without the Magic Eight Ball.

These are kick ass results for the gestational age. But the wait? One of my least favorite parts of the whole experience.

So.... what is your CSA delivering in the next two weeks that can keep you busy with trying new recipes?

Kristin said...

Those are AMAZING results for the gestational age. Hell, they tell you not to expect a heartbeat at 6 weeks. So, I say good news for now and hoping for AMAZING news in 2 weeks.

painted maypole said...

looking pretty good so far, though. :)

and according to the magic 8 ball, I will be cast in the show I'm attending callbacks for on Saturday. "Without a doubt." sweet.

Melissia said...

I know that it is early days, so I will just keep my good thoughts that all continues to go well.

thirtysomething said...

actaully those are AWESOME readings for such an early date in the pregnancy - a heartbeat can already be seen??! usually that is like something after 6 weeks... don't you just love the waiting game..:) hang tight!
"what is for you, won't go past you".

Aurelia said...

Congratulations, cautiously....hoping for good news.

I do worry that twins would have you freaked out the whole pregnancy. So yeah, committing now to support you everyday as much as you need, whatever the outcome.

fingers crossed and hoping hard

Sarah said...

okay so this isn't the big resounding definitive answer you're hoping for (yet), but it IS the best way of getting there!

and when i asked if this was going to end well for you the magic 8 ball said "you may rely on it"

Artblog said...

Ooooh, sweetheart, two, maybe! Crossing me alls for good news next scan.

Christine said...

hoping for you my dear...

(((HUGS))) and hang in there!!

Congratulations on your pregnancy. I was a little thrown off by the name of the blog, but it definitely commands attention.
