portents of the apocalypse

A ravening ash cloud spawned by a subglacial volcano! An eerie ball of fire in the midwestern skies!

And, for about half an hour yesterday, Cole and Ruby asleep at the same time!

Obviously, I haven't quite got this one toddler + one infant thing completely figured out yet. But I'm working on it.

Wait, has ANYONE figured that one out?

She looks like a sage already. Give her a blog!

It gets better.

But just in case it doesn't, better keep digging that nuclear fallout shelter.

Nice to "see" you in the thick of it all. Just strolled by to give you a holler. Looks like the universe has been kind to you while I've been kept occupied by it's treachery. :)

Oh heavens, that photo is absolutely gorgeous. She's all, "Don't bother me now. I'm sleeping."

That hand. Wrinkled, old, and new - all at the one time.

Congratulations, Niobe. I have been thinking of you heaps.

I don't know that I ever figured it out. My kids just eventually got older and things got easier.

I hope that it's the first of many shared nap times!

If you figure it out I'll be grateful for tips.

Nice to see you.

At the time I was bending the infant's schedule to follow the toddler's (kept the infant awake until the toddler's nap/bed time). I mastered it in about 2 weeks. But I was also grateful for one-to-one time.
I envy you...

beautiful... just beautiful.
The NYTimes had up a contest (?) of sorts, wanting photographs with mixed prints. Wouldn't this be just perfect, as is Ruby. Still just tickled that she is here, causing sleeplessness and joy.

ok, related NYTimes article b/c really, you have nothing better to do... mixing prints and patterns with success... that is what Miss Ruby has goin' on. This photo of Ruby is best in the bunch of those they gathered:

Little Ruby, it's hard for a little baby! You are so gorgeous!
Niobe, she looks well dressed given how stocked your cupboard was!

Is there anything so delicious as the smell of a newborn's fuzzy head? Give her a little nuzzle for me.

I have no doubt that the chaos will turn to a tolerable state of normalcy soon. Hang in there.

Hahahaha! Figuring things out! You're so funny.

Love the perspective on the photo of Ruby! Adorable.

So with you on this. If by chance you do get the toddler+baby thing down be sure to let me know, would you? My sanity is hinging on it! ;)

She's a cutie! Congratulations again!

Since reading it I couldn't get it out of my head. Cole and Ruby, Ruby and Cole, compadres in mischief! Do you have a picture of the two of theM, the gang, TOGETHER?

She's a mini-Niobe protecting her anonymity with a strategically placed hand!

Yikes. I am a-scared. That's me in 3 months. And that gives you 3 months to provide me with THE answer. I'm counting on you.

I second the request for a Cole and Ruby shot. How is he digging the sister thing?

That cloud of volcanic ash is messing with me in all kinds of ways. Yesterday there was short spurt of hail. Next, I expect locusts.

That Ruby of yours is just gorgeous. Congratulations to you, Niobe.

Let me know when you figure it out, I hope to have an infant and a toddler at some point in the near future.. Though I'm sure I may have to actually get pregnant or find some means to obtain said infant first.

Let me know what you figure out. Yesterday we were all in tears and no one was getting what she needed.

Love this picture--look at those wrinkly hands!

half an hour seems like a remarkably small window of time for mummy to sleep in...?

but those sweet hands. on that sweet girl. i get a little pang.

Love the photo!

The fireball passed over my city. My building's rooftop camera caught a snapshot of it. And the conference I was at this last week or so in California... well, many of my European colleagues are still in CA due to that volcano. What a trip. The conference organizers are thinking of holding a contest to see who has the most interesting adventure to get home.

And I think Trish is right... eventually, the kids get older and life gets easier. Or at least new challenges emerge.

Ahh, still wrinkly! Darling.

Ha! Almost lost the tea out of my mouth on that one. My boys are 22 months apart. It was 100% zoo here for a while in terms of sleep. Now it is 100% zoo in terms of percentage of toys to walking space in my apartment.

When you work that out, let me know, will you?
