righting

It was more a mistake than a milestone, but, the other day, Ruby rolled over for the very first time.

She was next to the coffee table, tummy to floor, when her forearms unfolded, her back arced and the weight of her head toppled her with the force of an undertow. She stared at the ceiling. She started to cry.

Nothing was certain, but this much was clear: something had gone wrong, someone had blundered. Somewhere above her, the lights glared and dazzled. Nothing would ever be the same again.

Milestone...mistake...same difference! Now that she knows it can be done, she will either make every effort to not do it for a long time. Or, she will try to repeat the experience, and you will be chasing a baby around much sooner than expected.

Hurray Ruby! Next, scooting...

shit, life is tough, isn't it. The things these poor kids need to learn to survive. My guy is still on the acid trip where he realizes those feet? Are HIS.

What a beauty!

Baby T rolled at 5 weeks, but the good news is that as she has learnt new skills, she has forgotten the old ones .....

So when Little Ruby starts conjugating french verbs, that rolling thing might fall right out of her head.

Ruby is very advanced. I've never known existential angst in one so young. It must be hereditary.

(she's such a peach, Niobe. I'm having a broody turn all of a sudden!)

I totally understand, Ruby. Hang in there.

Oh my, yes. Once you've rolled over, the whole rest of your life begins to move faster and faster ... I'd cry too! (

And I love love love the photo of her sockless foot. Love. It.)
