down payment

It looks like we're going ahead with the gestational carrier plan, since I just signed a check for a ridiculously large amount of money, stuck it in an envelope and sent it off to the agency. I can't say I'm especially optimistic about the odds or the outcome, but I know I'd come to regret never having tried.

Money won't make you any happier, but a baby will.

Stock up on Ramen noodles and Cheerios - you'll be thankful you did it in the long run.

Well from my safe position, I'm excited for you and L.

To second Julia's sentiment, b'sha'a tova!

Hi Niobe! Thanks for the comments on the blog. I've been reading some of your story and I think we have quite a bit in common. Your blog is wonderfully written and I can feel your heartache, I really do. I'll be most interested to read more about the GS--good luck with it all. I think it's a wonderful idea.

Your comment reminded me of Jack Nicholson's character in "One Flew Over the Coo Koo's Nest" when he is trying to lift this obviously impossible sink/basin made of marble off the floor and throw it threw a window to escape the psychiatric prision ward they are on. All the inmates made bets that he couldn't do it and after he tried and tried, strain himself again and again, he finally began paying off those who bet against him cuz he didn't do it. His comment was, "At least I tried!"

And your comment resonated the same way to me just now. My bet is on you niobe :)

I'm with everyone in the "B'sha'ah Tovag" camp! I just started reading you (after you left a comment with me) and let say, wow, you ahve gone through a lot and I think the GC plan will be money well spent.

I can't think of anything to say that hasn't been said, but I'm so glad you made the decision. Have you looked into blogs of women who've done surrogacy, or do you not want to go there?

Thanks, everyone for the support and encouragement. I'm trying to be realistic, yet hopeful -- a tough balancing act. I'm not telling anyone IRL -- except my mother -- so you're really the only ones I can talk to about this.

s.: a couple of the blogs on my blogroll -- plan b and not done yet are about surrogacy. If you have others to suggest, please, please let me know.

and matthew m.f.m.: mmm Ramen. mmm cheerios. I'm going to try to keep your wise thoughts about money and happiness in mind, difficult as that may be.
