more pictures and a modest proposal

A few more photos from my backyard. And I didn't play with the color at all in that first shot -- the sky really was that impossibly blue.

Also, I was thinking about my Christmas/holiday cards and it occurred to me that, in lots and lots of ways, the people who've made the most difference in my life this year are, well, all of you, the people who read this blog, the commenters and the lurkers and (stealing the idea from DD at TKO) I'd really love to send you cards wishing you season's greetings or merry winter solstice or joyous saturnalia. So, if you'd like a card, just let me know in the comments and/or email me an address.

edited to add: If you sign up for this, you absolutely do not have to send me a card in return. I mean, if you *need* to send me one, that's fine, but this is intended to be a purely altruistic gesture on my part.

And please don't feel shy about about putting yourself on my card list. You'll actually be doing me a huge favor by letting me give something back to you and making me feel that I'm being, y'know, nice.

What a great idea! Love that first picture, what an amazingly blue sky for this time of year.

Okay Niobe...that is it. Seriously. You always have the best ideas...fab pictures...recipes that you've actually cooked...I could keep going on and on. I am going to have to sit and be jealous for a bit.

Okay...I'm sort of over my jealousy thing...but what an awesome idea.

I hope during this holiday season that you know how much of a difference you have made in all of our lives as well.

You're so nice. I think I'll take the offer itself as a holiday greeting since I'm pathetic at reciprocating.

Like the previous commentator. I'll take the offer as the greeting, as I think it would be to late to be sending a card across the Atlantic and for it to get here on time.

Even though I have banned Christmas in our house...I would be willing to bend the rules for a card from you.

oh, i'd love a card from you! i'll e-mail you my address.

what a perfect idea.

I wonder what a winter solstice card from Niobe would generate on Ebay?

I would totally sign up if it was a photocard with one of your shots. :) But that, I think, is not a little presumptuous. So I will take the Beruriah approach, and count this post as the greeting. Cause it has pictures and all. :)

Oooo! Yay! A Christmas card! That's such a cool idea. If you'll send one to me, I'll send one to you too...

Do you really have something blooming in your yard right now? Wow.

I love your idea. It's sweet. Nice, even, like you, though you pretend sometimes that you're not.

Julia: Actually, I was planning to send a photocard with one of my pictures. So, I'll just count you as signed up. :)

Carole: You should actually be jealous of DD. Because I totally stole the (admittedly brilliant) idea from her.

I love this, and yes, I'll take a card, but I am horrible at reciprocating, so forewarned.

I'm with Aurelia and Meg. I don't do Christmas but I'd love to get a card from you... but am lousy at reciprocating. Well, that's not entirely true. You might end up getting a card some time during the year when it happens to pop into my head.. or I see something that triggers me to send you one.

As long as that's okay... :)

that's such a sweet idea, I'd love to have one. Especially if it is one of your photos. I sent you an email already.

Ooh, great idea. Sign me up with the usual warning about reciprocity. I've been meaning to email you for a while so I'll do it when I get home tonight (stupid workplace: I don't have access to gmail at work).

Oh, Niobe, that's a wonderful idea! I'd love to send you a card, too.

what coincidence. I'm currently obsessing over christmas cards - we do them every year, to 75 people, with a note about what we've been up to. What to do this year? My husband says still send out joint cards, but no note. The week he moves out, I guess. Or do I send cards to "my side" with no note? Or do we tell people this month, but not in the card. Do we pretend through the holidays, then i contact everyone in January after he's slithered off?

So, yes. Yes, I would love a card from you, and you can be one of the people I send a genuine card to, as well. There, that's one thing resolved. I will get and receive one genuine card this year.

Now what about the other 75?

what a great idea. that, like all of 'my' great ideas, i am going to steal. i would LOVE a card.
i'll send you, via email, my address and i'd like yours as well.

I love how interactive you are as a blogger! I want a card! I love mail! If you give me your address I'll send you a cute picture of Baby, which is in all likelihood what our Christmas cards will consist of this year! Exclamation points abound...

Those photos are gorgeous - and very card like, so I think that counts as your holiday greeting!

Well, I love love love this sentiment and idea. I have decided I'm not doing cards, but I might just make up a special "Merry Fucking Christmas!" card just for you, if you'll accept that sort of sentiment this year. But I was also thinking how much it will suck to just get the regular blah blah blah isn't my family happy, healthy, beautiful and wonderful? cards, and I think it would be affirming to receive a card from someone who gets "it." So I'll email my addy. You're awesome. And your pictures are brilliant. And you should do photo Christmas cards, just a (heavyhanded) suggestion.

Niobe,

In this season of counting one's blessings, I am thankful for you. You are a beautiful dance between refreshingly forthcoming and cleverly cloaked. Thank you for sharing your thoughts with us.

Most sincerely,
Emily.

I was thinking the same thing! About holiday letters/cards. About how the people I most want to send to are those online...

As a long time lurking reader and only occasional commenter I feel a bit like Christine...a litle weird asking, but I would love a card from you. Especially since I'll be making you feel...y'know, nice. I'll email you my address.
