31° fahrenheit*

stones in the river
*Or -0.5° celsius/centigrade for the rest of you.

What's the temperature where you are?

And, American idiot that I am, I may have asked this question before, but humor me: is celsius or centigrade the more common term (I realize there may be regional variations)? And is there anywhere in the world other than the US that uses fahrenheit?

It was 4 degrees fahrenheit here this morning. SE Wisconsin

Stay warm. It was -2 with -15 windchill on Monday when I had to drive to Madison though. ;)

Brrr. This morning where I am it is 57 degrees fahrenheit (but this is not normal). Usually this time of year in WNC it is around 40 degrees.
Stay warm!

Currently, it's -9C (-16 with the windchill.) that's 15F (feels like 3F)

Worst I've ever seen it, and been outside for far too long in was -53C. THAT is fucking cold. Stupid Canada.

Actually, once it gets beyond -20, it doesn't really matter. COld is cold. You need to come visit in this weather. :P

At 6:38 AM, it is currently 43F and raining in San Diego.

Wordgirl said...

Well.

I live in Minnesota -- and this is, how shall I put it?

Normal?

It is 2degreesF -- but feels like -8F with the windchill

That's -17 C (or feels like -22C)

Ah, Minnesota. Come for a visit, won't you?

It is at present -22C here, with a high of - 21 and a low of -23. And a 60 percent chance of snow.
With the windchill, it is -29.
-22 = -7.4F, or -20F with wind.

somwhere in the 70s? hard to believe a week ago today it snowed here in Louisiana

Cindy said...

I feel really bad for Mrs. Spit!

Here in Denver, NC it is about 55, but constantly misting and foggy. I think it will be in the 60'-70's over the weekend, not sure about the precipitation factor.

It's about -4 Celsius (and I've never heard anyone actually use "centigrade" in conversation, BTW) and bright sunshine. Supposed to be getting colder tonight and tomorrow.

It's currently 30F here

Seattle: 32 and SNOWING!!!
Yeah for snow days :-)

I'd say celsius, and I'm a Brit. But the fascinating thing about the British is that we use both scales with little regard for accuracy. For instance, if the temperatures are low, we'll say 'Oh, it'll freeze tonight' or 'It'll be minus 2 tonight!!' but if it's warm we'll say 'It'll be over 90 this week!'. Brits: we make no sense.

Furrow said...

My little bit of Tennessee is drizzly and in the 40s(?). Last week was snow and ice and tomorrow will be 65.

I couldn't do the negative fahrenheits. No way, no how.

It's currently -28Celsius (-18.4F).

Much, much better than last week's -30Celsius, -43Celsius with windchill (-30F, -43ishF).

Presently 9F with a windchill of 3F. Feels positively balmy (I didn't wear a coat when going out to feed the chickens!) compared to the -25F windchills we had the other day.

39 degrees right now at 10 am. Supposed to be 60 today, but I'm not holding my breath. Supposed to be 70 tomorrow. Ahh, the mid-south. Weather makes no sense here.

it's about -2C (and yeah, that's celsius as opposed to centigrade) in the Toronto area. Not a bad temp at all.

However...

We're supposed to be hammered with anywhere between 15 and 25 cm of snow over the next day or so.

Bleh.

Its 23F or -5C.

I live about 40 miles from the Canadian border, so, the radio station that broadcasts FROM the border (I think the station sits on one side of the bridge or the other), gives the temp both ways, and they always say "celsius". I don't think I've ever heard them say "centigrade". Probably depends on the region, though. So, I feel confident saying southern Ontario uses "celsius".

10 AM and only 18*. Nice.

-6C right now.
people really do enjoy talking about the weather don't they?

I don't know about temperature, but here in Georgia we were playing out at the park in short sleeves.

Eva that's just mean.

It is -4 here and sadly it does not seem that cold to me.

Aunt Becky said...

It's 19 degrees here, but we're waiting on an ice-storm to snap through tonight and tomorrow.

11C here in London.

Christina said...

I'm un-lurking here to make everyone jealous and tell you all that it's around 80 degrees here in sunny Florida! :)

I think Christina wins, at least so far. (though it's a little hard to tell since Eva didn't give us exact numbers)

81 degrees at my house today and I HATE IT. Seriously sick and tired of seeing so much SKIN exposed in December. I miss my sweaters and long sleeves and plaid docs...sigh. We need to do a winter exchange program because I will gladly time-share with someone wanting to get there hot holiday on. I want SNOW!!!

its a balmy -21C here in the western part of canada (i think that's around -6F) but its due to get colder colder colder soon, sigh, who said stupid canada, uh huh. yups.

beagle said...

31 deg F here, though my local station likes to quote the "real feel" temp too which they are calling 25 deg F. Slushy snow on the ground, more on the way overnight. NE PA.

Monica H said...

A couple days ago it was 29 degrees F and icy. But the last couple days have been about 50-60 degrees, humid and foggy. Yuck!

I've always said celcius, not centigrade.

Bon said...

i've never lived in the middle of Canada, but on the east, west, and northern coasts we've always said celsius. as a kid i thought "centigrade" was some kind of technical term not for us layfolk.

i think it's about -5 celsius here right now. we just stood around outside for half an hour so Oscar could look at sheep and donkeys and that was plenty cold.

Karin said...

It's around 24C here in Canberra today. About perfect really.

Celsius. :-)

Azaera said...

-40 celcius here in manitoba..

Melissia said...

Right now it is 70 degrees, but the high today was 76.5 degrees F and I insisted on wearing a sweater while doing some Christmas shopping (just 55 miles south of Houston Texas).

Grad3 said...

It's 63 degrees F right now and it's almost 9pm. Ah, southern hospitality at it's finest!

Yes, we are the only ones who use F. We are kinda snobby that way ;)

Topcat said...

It's hot here.

Thank God my winter is OVAH.
XOXOX

niobe said...

Azaera: I'm speechless, reduced to acronyms and exclamation points. Like, mainly, OMFG!!!!!

niobe said...

And Anonymous (the one who said it was -28 C), Wordgirl, Daisies and Mrs. Spit: ditto.

Here in Australia we use Celsius, and as with all other metric systems of measurement it makes way more sense.

Basically with water, zero is freezing and 100 is boiling so its easy to estimate the range inbetween. Human body temp is 36, so when the weather hits that sort of number you know its more than just a regular hot day and less than half that starts to get chilly!

I am planning a trip to America in February and when I read that the temp would be like 25 degrees I thought, oh that cant be too cold, till I realised your scale "freezes" in the 30's! Very confusing!

Amy said...

Just have to say, I am totally blown away by some of these answers! Wow, I thought I was cold at 19 F, that's not cold at all compared to the crazy ones in Canada!

Amy said...

Didn't mean crazy people! I meant crazy cold temperatures! Just had to clarify!

KH99 said...

It is going to be 75 degrees here today. Ridiculous! But that's NC for you...40 degrees one day; 75 the next.

Amelie said...

Today it's very warm, around 15 deg C (60F). And I've never even heard centigrade.

Sarah said...

Today it was 41 F. when I went to the store. And foggy, and drizzly. Apparently London weather has taken over central VA.

Caro said...

Iagree with Rebecca, low temps are in C (I'd say centrigrade - maybe it's an age thing) and high ones are in F. It's quite warm here in Yorkshire - about 5oC.

andrea said...

23C. (celsius. I think centigrade is dated, perhaps?) lovely and sunny.

B said...

25C - perfect for the beach. Catch you later.

Mad said...

Today? -17 Celcius--definitely celcius. 1 degree Farenheit. Plus wind. Time for some hot buttered rum.

Canada said...

I think when stating temp you say celsius, but it is measured on the centigrade scale.
