- Weight loss secret: A 2007 study (no doubt sponsored by the peppermint industry) found that inhaling peppermint scent decreases appetite and caloric intake. And reduces nicotine cravings and improves your Guitar Hero score. I don't know about you, but I'm stocking up.
- Will leave you just a little teary-eyed (even if your heart happens to be cold, black and two sizes too small) Cara has posted an incredibly moving video (you'll have to scroll down the page a bit) of last month's Walk for Hope and Remembrance. The long, sad list of the names of our lost babies starts at about 17:07.
- Is your blog boring? Help is on the way. If it's the content that needs a little work, take a look at Aunt Becky's blogging tips. Aunty B writes one of the most entertaining blogs around, so when she gives advice: read and heed. If it's the visual aspects of your blog that could use sprucing up (are you still using that pre-packaged template?), get in touch with Calliope, who (as she's already done for so many other bloggers) will take your ideas and favorite images and colors and turn them into a gorgeous custom header.
- In the mail: Today, I got a beautiful postcard from Ruby, sent during her recent road trip. Take a look at her blog to see the unwelcome souvenir she picked up in the Beehive State.
- The photo above? Just part of our haul from week two of the CSA. Lots of lettuce-like items, red-stemmed kale and more tasty, tasty bok choy.

And if you combine it with the results from the spearmint study, you will not only be an awesomely thin rocker, you will also be a totally relaxed one.
Relaxed and spearminty I'm all for. Alas, thin and rockery I shall never be - peppermint makes me think of being sick, because this one time I ate a chocolate peppermint pie from Bakers Square and came down with the flu the next day. Bleh.
Do you know that you take the most phenomenal photos?
Mcpolish: And here I thought that spearmint and peppermint were the same thing. Or at least kissing cousins. Live and learn.
Another tip from the peppermint industry--eating peppermint while studying and then eating peppermint during the exam will increase the amount of information you retain and can access.
red and white striped candies = peppermint. green and white striped candies = spearmint.
I've always preferred spearmint. A little milder than peppermint, IMHO.
CSA *sigh*
Somehow, every year, I want to sign up until mid-March -- and then? Shares are sold out. I should be happy this is a quasi-progressive, produce supporting metro... but I can't help my kale and kohlrabi envy...
Off to the farmer's market for me I guess..oh, but wait, it's Minnesota -- nothing's really much growing yet...swiss chard anyone?
We just got our first CSA shipment today (we missed the first week and got the second-to-last share).
Lettuce and cabbage, mostly, with some interesting "Hakurai Turnips." I didn't even know what a turnip looked like until today.
you really are quite the renaissance woman
Awww, Kristin (and Flutter) you are too kind.
awww. thanks for the shoutout!
I somehow think that all of my peppermint ice cream eating ways won't count towards becoming svelte.
Dude. Niobe. You're still my girl-crush.
And I can't handle peppermint. It's a shame that it's not SPEARMINT which I do like. Peppermint reminds me of being barfy. Nice, eh?
