all the ingredients

the butter pyramid of the apocalypse
In our house, we call them bakies. Because, like, duh, you don't cook them, you bake them. Then we giggle hysterically. Because we're very easily amused.

This weekend, Gray looked through the Christmas cookie section of marthastewart.com, selected a slew of recipes and we baked Every. Single. One. Including, but not limited to, the chocolate waffle cookies featured in the previous post, jam-stuffed linzer sandwiches and (my personal favorite) pecan bars.

All of the recipes called for massive quantities of creamed butter, so while waiting for it soften, we constructed the structure pictured above. In homage to the Nephilim, who (in case you didn't know), were giants from outer space who built (among other things) the Great Pyramid of Giza, which predicts the imminent arrival of End Times, we called it the Great Butter Pyramid of the Apocalyse.

And then we giggled. Hysterically.

I love your family. We tell similar hilarious stories. ;)

Happy baking!

Baking sounds like a lot of fun in your house. In my house, I have to specify that my husband should get BUTTER - No, not margarine, BUTTER - out of the freezer. And then I come home to margarine. Sigh. Then I have to bake something else with the margarine while I wait for the butter to defrost and soften. Soon, my little girl will be able to help, though...she will know the difference between margarine and butter!

That's just too much and too funny! But I, too, am so very easily amused.

I like that you are so easily amused. Maybe I'll go home and bake some cookies...

Bakies :) It seems I'm easily amused, too.
Aside - does this mean that Gray has returned from his trip?

I couldn't stop thinking about your waffles from yesterday (which imho look a lot better than Marta's). Might go into some baking-madness on the weekend. But before I need to figure out how many grams 1 teacup is... first time that I saw butter measure in tablespoons. We'll see how well that turns out.

Happy giggles!

Not the Great Butter Pyramid of DOOM?

And... did you then consume all of those dreamy-sounding creations?

In my home growing up, chocolate waffles were a dessert treat (we were big on desserts) - served warm and traditional waffle size and topped with ice cream and chocolate sauce. A dessert for the ages!!!

@Julia: Nope. All mailed out to various friends and relations.

@Amelie: And, yes, Gray is back. But will be leaving again in January.

OMG these pecan bars! Must have!

Guess I will have to break the oath I took after my first (and last) disastrous attempt at following an american baking recipe -- never ever to tackle a recipe that gives measure in cups, tablespoons etc again.

I still have no idea how much (in metric units, that's what I can measure with the devices I have) a cup of sugar really is, or a stick of butter. I just know that I trashed a complete batch of cupcakes (pun unintended) including the homemade frosting. Somehow I must have gotten the sugar/fat ratio completely wrong.

But for these pecan bars I will solve both the unit and the pecan problem. And after that I go for the chocolate waffles. Calories here I come!

It's only the Apocalypse if you invite Bella over to dip bacon in that big pyramid. Because she would worship at that temple.

I'm making coffee toffee this week, but I'm now craving these waffle things.

I enjoyed imagining you guys goofing off in the kitchen. Laughing and building butter pyramids.
Your cookies look MUCH more scrumptious than mine..now I'm salivating, and wanting linzer cookies.

That's a lot of cookies.

A lot.

In Australia we call them biscuits, and for some reason they just don't have the status here that they seem to over there.

Maybe we just need to learn how to make chocolate waffle cookies. They do look very good.

What a cooking project! Did you make it to the end in one day?

I hope my son will still want to bake with me when he is Gray's age. He sounds simply awesome.

I love that you baked every single recipe. It's something I would love to do, and something that I never get round to doing so congratulations to you and Gray!

I just love that Gray's not too cool to bake and giggle with you :) Love it.

If the end of days comes in a land slide of butter, the French and my 12 year old will be quite happy. And so will the rest of us, really. Your bakies are lovely.

Love the pyramid and its name.

Awesome. Being easily amused is a wonderful thing. I love giggling hysterically. I will be pleased at punch if my children will still giggle with me as teenagers. Also, yay, butter!

y'all have an awesome sense of humor.

But they're still cookies.

@Kristin: Though we're kind of regretting it now, we shipped off all our bakies to various friends and relations. And, sadly, got almost no pictures beforehand. (Though there are a couple on my flickr site)
