one, two

I realize this is not exactly what Diana (link added) (who didn't leave a link to her profile) and Furrow had in mind when they requested a picture of Cole and Ruby together. But it's about the best I can do at the moment, because if my hands and attention are occupied with a camera, they are, necessarily, not occupied with preventing Cole from expressing his over-enthusiastic affection for his little sister.

The best I've been able to do is this photo which, though not the most awesome shot ever, nicely illustrates the problem. While Cole has managed to climb into Ruby's moses basket, he is not (I promise) sitting on top of Ruby's feet. However, I admit that his demonic grin is entirely due to the fact that he has, at long last, managed to swipe her bottle.

Note: My camera still isn't working, so I've been using this cute little Canon Ixus 100 IS that (I think) Gray picked up in Europe. I like it, but I yearn desperately for a camera of my own.

I disagree - I think that is the most awesome shot ever! (well, almost - a little more of Ruby's face would have made it the most awesome shot ever). It conveys the absolute triumph and absolute exasperation of sibling rivalry!

But, the other pictures...adorable!

Aww.. thanks for sharing, Niobe. I hope you get a camera of your own soon enough.
And hey, over-enthusiastic affection might be better than jealousy (not that I had any practical clue though).

Absolutely precious. And too funny about Cole in Ruby's moses basket. That's a great shot -- definite keeper.

I think I prefer kids loving each other too much. My 21 month old daughter has taken to hitting her 5 year old brother with whatever is handy when she is upset with him. Or pulling his hair.

Love the moses basket photo!

Beautiful family. Get a Canon G10. It captures video, stills and has an ISO boost for lowlight settings.

I love bathtub pics, there is just something about them. And why do those delicious rolls of chub look so good on baby girls(and boys) and so not good on us grown ups!
Enjoy Niobe!

I really thought with my level of cynicism I was beyond being turned into a melted puddle of by cuteness. I was wrong.

Who gives a fig about the cam, keep the pix coming!

You have very adorable babies Niobe.

Your family is so beautiful ... not that you need us to point that out to you!

I love it! She clearly likes sharing her basket with her brother...or at least she didn't have time to scream about her swiped bottle before you got the shot :) Hope that life with two little peanuts is going well and that everyone is napping at least occasionally...

Thank you! Thank you! The linked photo actually caused me to chuckle outloud. I love that devilish grin.

I really, really hope you're doing okay. I can only imagine (so far) how tough it is to handle two tiny ones in those first few rough weeks.

I can't stop staring at them. It makes me remember the solid happiness that was flowing through my veins after the births of my children.
I think it's easier for me to see the beauty of other people's lives than that in my life, not going through their daily grind.

Do you, Americans, have the fate tellers, fairies that come just after the birth of the baby to wish all the good things in life?
Ruby and Cole, Cole and Ruby have been well stocked on good wishes!...

They are adorable! I am so glad that Cole is excited about and not jealous of his sister.

What is their age difference? I was thinking they were close to the same ages as my two( 2 yrs 5 months & 4 months), but now I'm thinking Cole is younger than my son.

Oh. My. Gosh. That picture of Ruby is ADORABLE. And, as always, Cole is so cute!!

Ruby is beautiful. I love the picture of them together. Is Cole really loving his sister, or is it sibling rivalry?

That photo of cole in the basket is AWESOME!

@amelie, leanne, phoebe: Yeah, maybe I should have put "affection" in quotation marks. Because there's obviously a huge amount of jealousy not very far below the surface.

@Rachel: They're almost exactly 15 months apart, so not too much different than your little ones.

They are both beautiful. How you have the energy to be blogging and worrying about the kind of camera you're using with the amount of sleep you must be missing, I don't know... but they are sweet.

they are perfect!

That photo of Cole sitting in Ruby's basket with her bottle is priceless. Gorgeous children.

All three photos are lovely, but the grin on his face is great.

Do you feel any different (aside from sleep-deprived) now that they are both here?

Too cute. What beautiful, beautiful children. Very happy for you, Niobe. It looks like any mommy blogger's post and I feel privileged to have read the posts on the long road leading up to this moment. It's nice to know the person behind these posts.

Gorgeous! So happy for you.

What is it about pictures of children that took so much effort to bring into the world that makes me weepy? Our miracles.
