spellbound

driver

So, I'm posting these pictures of my two boys and what I'm thinking is mainly how impossibly lucky I've been. Yes, I've been unlucky too and there are lots of reasons that you would absolutely not want to trade your life for mine, but the last two years I've gone through two successful surrogacies, resulting in two perfect babies (a boy and a girl) and let's not forget the extra kid I already had.

Someone recently asked me how come I'm no longer cursed and while I don't have an answer, it's the kind of thing I wonder about when I have nothing better to do. In other words, far too often.

Which brings me to the ostensible point of this post, namely that the other day, a, um, friend of mine was googling curses and she found this nifty site enables you to send a free voodoo curse by email to the victim(s) of your choice (providing, of course, that you know his/her/their email addresses).

The recipient will get a personalized picture of a creepy voodoo doll with a creepy voodoo message. Plus the site has bonus features like tracking so you can see if the voodoo curse message has been opened and a selection of (definitely not family-friendly) victim feedback.

While I don't think I'd want to really and truly curse anyone, I have to admit the idea is intriguing. Considerations of karma and such aside, theoretically, is there a person or group of people you'd kinda sorta like something bad (but maybe not too bad) to happen to? Answer anonymously if you'd like.

I would say...pretty much everyone!

Nope. I wish only peace, love and understanding for the whole universe and all the beings in it. 24/7/365. Or /366 if it happens to be a leap year.

Well, the karma part would prevent me from indulging. But I'd curse the insufferable parnets' clique in our subdivision. Of course, their children are taking right after them, only worse ... they are (by definition) even less mature (if that's possible) and without the same sense of social constraint that at least keeps their parents at a peaceable distance.

Gosh, I really hate the burbs.

My mother would have loved that site.

In a fit of self-loathing, I sent a voodoo curse to myself. Does that count?

I used to have a huge list of people I would have liked to curse...but age brings apathy, so I wouldn't bother now. Plus, most of those people have gotten their just rewards already. :)

I am so happy for you! Least of all because of the vast number of opportunities the cursing webpage opens up to you ;-).
I love to see those pictures of your two boys and your beautiful Ruby. I wish you very, very happy.

Concerning your question: No, I do not think so.
I am the kind of stormy, almost choleric person who cannot bear a grudge. Loud and angry for a few seconds, and then it's gone. I cannot even be angry at people for a long time if I try -- the reflection sets in and I justify other people's bad behavior. So no curses from my side.

Mmmm, the things we could do, (rubs hands devilishly). Oh, it's just too tempting:)

Alright, I'll lay bare the strongest dose of anger in my soul, maybe it will help me to finally put it down and walk away: my son's Montessori teacher who when told about my daughter's death (in the context of how we felt our son was struggling with it) said, "that's in the past."

Ordinarily I'd say no, but today very evil part of wants maybe a little something bad to happen to the man who killed my friend last night when he hit her with his car as she was crossing the street. At least something small like a bird pooping in his eye every time he dared to venture outside.

I want to hug you I'm so happy for you. (and the older son? I'm so JEALOUS of those nails! Boy nails are so awesome sometimes!!!)

While somedays I would LOVE to curse the ex, at the end of the day I really don't hold that much animosity toward anyone. Gah, the effort of doing that.

Miley Cyrus. I just want her to develop a coke habit, get knocked up, and/or die. Rough, I know. But I just can't help it.

Your blog has become so sunny, Niobe. Definitely not a bad thing. =)

People who do stupid, selfish shit and don't give a damn about other human beings. I just would love for them to be cursed with utter kindness. I know that is super cheesy and cliche, but seriously there are way too many people who don't think about how their actions affect others. Just gets old and sickening.

@Kymberli, I am so sorry. That is awful and truly heartbreaking. My thoughts are with you.

would love my old ex husband from my dim dark past (not my current, dearly adored 2nd husband & father of my kids) to be well and truly cursed but would never do it myself for fear of being found out engaging in something that focused my attention on him. Just don't want my inner circle to think I still even care a scrap about what happened all those years ago.

Things is, every person I may have considered cursing has had something terribly tragic happen to them... so now I'm kind of paranoid about even thinking thoughts like that.

No, and only because, in this culture at least, they say that, first, the bad thing will turn onto yourself sometime, someway, and, second, IT WILL TURN ON YOUR KIDS.

So, no, thank you, I just keep an eye on certain individuals.

We are in the middle of an election here so voodoo curses would come in handy - not sure there are enough to go around given the venal lot of people there are standing for parliament.

I've been having similar thoughts (about being lucky, not cursing people).

The other day someone mentioned to me how strongly they believed in fate. All I could think of later was that I'm sometimes a stronger believer in crappy luck. I think fate sounds great when things are going well in your life, but it doesn't explain the crap. Or at least it doesn't to me. I just feel fortunate I've been able to escape crappy luck for a while. Life is good right now. And I'm very happy to hear it is for you, too.

As for a voodoo curse, I'm having a hard time putting aside considerations of karma.

Is it bad if I say there is someone who I would like something kind of bad to happen to? Not life threatening or anything, just something. . .
