come out, come out, wherever you are

Magpie tells me that today is Delurking Day. Which means if you don't usually comment, I would be sempiternally grateful if you left a comment, no matter how small, on this post. Please delurk. I'll even say pretty please.

Because I how can I miss you, not to mention your trenchant wit and pithy observations, if I don't have the slightest idea who you are?

Edited to add: Well, my charming, yet shy lurkers, it looks like I'm not having much success in coaxing you out.* Would it help if I asked a few questions for you to answer in your comment? Like: How did you find this blog? Do you like caramel apples? What's your view on Britney's loss of custody? What should I take photos of next?

*Thanks, Dodo. I love you for delurking. And I love you too, Magpie, even though you couldn't be considered a lurker by any stretch of the imagination.

De-lurking.

Magpie said...

Hmm. You have a slight idea as to who I am. Maybe I shouldn't be posting.

De-lurking from my temporary lurking. Good to be back.

Hi, Meg! (waving wildly) It's great to see you again.

Hi, Christina! It's great to see you too.

Somehow this thread doesn't seem to be working our the way I planned.

Another lurker here.

Hi Niobe!

I've been reading you for ages, and I actually looked to see if you had an email address listed so that I could send you an email to say that you write so beautifully. Amazingly, even. I love to read you, and I'm itching to link to you from my blog, but I wanted to clear it with you first.

And I adore carmel apples.

How's this for a bargin, I'll comment more (which I should) if I can link to you from my blog.

niobe said...

Yay! Hi, Paula! Hi, Becky!

Becky: Link away. (I would have said that even if you hadn't given me such a incredibly nice, blush-inducing compliment). I'm looking forward to your comments.

Anonymous said...

YAY! I am totally doing this now.

(and fyi, I totally meant it. I scoured your site for an email address, because I really wanted to say so.)

Anonymous said...

lurker here. I got here from ... well, hmmm, from lurking on other blogs, I guess. I love caramel apples, but they can't really compare to the cake lust your beautiful b-day cake gave me. Yum.

niobe said...

Thanks, Beth! The cake *was* tasty.

I'm trying to add an email link now. There is one if you click on my complete profile, but no-one ever seems to be able to find it.

What about those of us who don't usually lurk?

Betty M said...

Delurking. Athough I think I have done so before but any way I know I don't comment much and I read every day that you post. Cant remember how I found you but it must have been via a blog found via Thalia as she was my entry into the blog world. Are they like toffee apples? If so - yes. Confess I am not up to speed on Ms Spears' antics. How about a picture of where you write?

Lori said...

Can I pretend I am delurking?

Who would believe it? Like I know how to keep my mouth shut (or, rather, my fingers from typing!)

Hello - delurking. I found your blog through the former Impatient Patient. I love your writing and I check your blog almost every day.

Cate said...

I have commented once before but not regularly. I honestly don't remember how I got to your blog, but I know it was from another blog. My brain is not all there these days.
Not a fan of candy apples, but caramel apples are delicious. I spent a year obsessed with the caramel apple lollipops you used to be able to buy in bulk from Costco.
Love your blog. You write the way I do in my head. It never comes out quite right on my blog, though. It is a singular talent to be able to express yourself so precisely. Does your blog come out how you think of it in your head, I wonder?

Anonymous said...

Hi Niobe. I often visit your blog. I think we live in the same geographical area too, maybe. I found your blog through somebody's blog roll. The title--it's hard to miss. I do like caramel apples but haven't had one in a long time. Poor Britney. Your photos are lovely, as is your writing. Hard to read, sometimes, but lovely nonetheless.

Waiting Amy said...

Hi niobe, I'm not really a lurker but ... I found you through some chain starting with Mel at Stirrup Queens. I love the way your write, but must admit I don't always get all the references (my brain is getting foggy). I love the international flair you have! And the photos are much like some I take -- the ultra-close-up that sort of changes everything about the subject. Its one of my faves.

Anonymous said...

Hi-
I don't remember how I got to your blog, but I'm sure glad I did. Love caramel apples, especially if covered in chocolate. I check in almost daily; I love your style and honesty.

Hey there Niobe. I don't usually lurk but I have been working like mad lately and haven't been good about keeping up with the blogs.

I know this is a few days late, but I am so sorry about the anniversary you faced in late September. And your parents? It just seemed like no one held you in their arms and just helped to absorb some of that tremendous grief. I have tears in my eyes just thinking about what you went through with your family.

Anyway, way to ruin a fun post, Ms. Planner. Just checking in with you and catching up..

xoxo

Tash said...

About those who recently found you? Found you through Stirrup's list, sorry we both had to end up in that category and not "CLICK HERE FOR FUN AND GOOD TIMES! WOOHOO!" Loves me some caramel apples. Even better with a touch of chocolate and a few nuts. Brit Brit doesn't seem to care much, according to PITNB, which I find odd. If you take pix of a caramel apple, I may have to hunt you down and kill you. Say, I'm new here, can you give away a geographic location of yourself? Even vaguely?

FattyPants said...

I think I'm still considered a lurker. Uh, I found you through mels I think, I hate caramel apples, and I think brit needs a good friend to smack the crap out of her.

The Goddess G said...

Oh...caramel apples. Now I'm hungry.

Anyhoo...went private. If you need an invite...just e-mail me at
caroleolson@verizon.net

Off to find that caramel apple.

You have sufficiently guilted me into coming out of lurk. I love your blog (I can't for the life o me recall how I got here, but have been reading for quite some time)...and am just too lazy to comment.

I *do* like the flavor of caramel apples, but do *not* like th way that the caramel sticks to my front teeth.

I couldn't really care less about Britney Spears, or the train wreck that is her life. (I do, however, feel bad for her poor, wee boys...)

As for your photos...I can't tell you what I would like for you to photograph...just keep photographing the things that you love:)

Emily said...

Yeah! Look at all of the delurkers. I'm not sure if I would be categorized as a lurker. I read every day but don't comment every day. I'm a semi-lurker.
I don't remember how I found you, but I'm hooked. I love your honest way of looking at life and how you say things even when they are difficult to say. I also love that you expand my vocabulary...sempiternally, indeed!

Chris, Renae & Annie said...

Not really delurking as I previously delurked. But it's been a while since I've commented.

Cannot remember for the life of me how I found you. LOVE caramel apples - but only when you cut the apple in slices and dip in the caramel. Traditional ones are too messy for me. Brittany losing custody - so sad for her kids that they are not in a stable environment. You should take photos of:
1 - a random gate
2 - the ugliest car you can find
3 - looking up
4 - your hands
5 - something to represent your broader dreams in life.

Hmm - I think I'll try to take photos of the same stuff and post them on my blog.

Peace, Niobe.

Delurking here. I found my way to your blog from Cecily's blog. I don't like caramel apples or Britney Spears though I do feel bad for her babies the day they start reading all the stuff printed about them. Chrissy

mochajunkie said...

I can't remember how I found you. Probably from Cecily's blog, but I like to wander around other people's blogrolls, so who knows?

Your writing is delicious and comforting like a cobbler, even when the subject matter is difficult.

Oh, fine. I'm about as far from a lurker as one can get. But don't discriminate against folks like me -- we matter too! ;)

Hello.

nancy said...

okay, I just started reading your blog yesterday. So I'm not really delurking, expect just making my first comment :)

And yes. I like caramel apples. In fact, made a batch last week.

Sarah said...

i don't understand lurking. when i actually get the time to catch up on my favorite blogs, i'm always eager to leave a comment. come to think of it, i'm not sure which is more annoying!

Kristen said...

I am a recent newcomer to your blog but no lurking here! I love your blog too much not to comment :)

thirtysomething said...

Ok. Obviously I am not a lurker. There.
Hello.
But I am going to answer your Q's anyway. I can't get enough caramel apples, but only in October. Call me wierd. I refuse to eat one any other time of the year.
I hate anything and everything to do with that damn girl Brit. I feel sorry for her kids to be sure, but I agree with the comment fattypants made above--she needs a good smacking (Brit, that is).
I love your word-sempiternally. You make me want to go study my dictionary.
I am smiling that you said pretty please, that may have actually caused you pain. Although, you do have zebra flip-flops, so...;)
Bye Niobe!
That was fun.

StyleyGeek said...

I'm a lurker, and I don't think I know what a caramel apple is. Is it like a toffee apple?

Anonymous said...

Check-for-updates-like-a-crazy-person lurker here. Can't remember how I found you--clicked through from some other blog. I'm the mother of a son stillborn last year, but I certainly didn't find you through anything related (not being a googler of such things, ever). You're an astonishing writer, and smart as anything. I dig what I can only call your gorgeous pessimism.

niobe said...

I am provincial. It never occurred to me that caramel apples were largely a US phenomenon. And I'd never heard of taffy apples or toffee apples. Here's what my research shows:

caramel apples, also known as taffy apples, are made by coating apples with hot caramel.

However taffy apples should not to be confused with the similar-sounding toffee apples , which are generally known in the US as candy apples, and consist of apples covered with hardened sugar syrup, usually colored red.

Thanks for my word of the day! ;)

I have 25 pounds of freshly (well, Saturday) picked apples. Imagine all the fun that could be had if they were dipped in caramel.

I even have a recipe for them.

Delurking. I think you actually found me through Impatient Patient and after you leaving lovely comments on my blog I started checking yours. I love your writing. I have never actually tried caramel apples...now I want to. Cindy (Grief Rollercoaster)

I'm not a lurker, but I thought I would say hello. I do love reading your blog. I got here through Aurelia at No Matter How Small - whose blog I also love to read!! You have a lot of lurkers!

Hi Niobe! I'm not a lurker, I just play one on the internet. Or something. Actually, I really do lurk almost everywhere I read, just not on your blog, most of the time.

I found your blog b/c you posted on mine.

I don't like caramel apples.

I didn't think celebrities ever lost custody.

Take pictures of...hmmm. Laundry. Why not?

Maggie said...

I suppose that it's only proper that I de-lurk like the rest of the folks. Howdy!

To be perfectly honest, I have no idea how I came across your blog...but I love it - I think that your writing is both beautiful and amazing!

I love your blog, I read it alot it helps me more than you could ever know!
Thank You, Thank You!

Hi Niobe,

I check in frequently. I'm fairly sure I found your blog through a loss related site. I lost one of my twins a few years ago and found myself "speechless" afterwards. It helps to read the words of others who have been through something similar.

So, thank you. You write beautifully and I love the photos, too.

: )

lurking around found your blog on another bloggers list, pondering the name. Read your blog start to finish in a day. I prefer apple crisp to caramel apples. Now do you guys say Cara-mel or Car-mel? lol as for Britney i do not know details of her custody situation i do however feel so sad for her i could not imagine having my child taken away from me. She had 2 children in 2 years, a divorce, and not to mention the biggest problem she is always in the public eye people need to leave her alone. and pictures you should take next.......fall is starting (well it is oddly 80 degrees in my area not seeming fall like ) but i love leaves and the colors take some pretty fall pictures they are soothing and beautiful *S

Lides said...

I don't remember how I found your blog. But I like it, so I keep coming back. I feel bad for Britney, I hope she gets help, and gets her kids back.

painted maypole said...

clearly, with 55 comments, the people have been delurking. i wonder if the delurkers will stay delurked or if they will go back into hiding tomorrow?

Pamela T. said...

Impressive job getting the lurkers out in the open. Carmel apples take a back seat to cider and a hot out-of-the fryer donut (said with a bit of nostalgia for the Rochester Cider Mill). Britney deserves to lose the boys. She's the poster child for why fertiles should be screened for parental competency before they're allowed to get pregnant.

Wabi said...

De-lurking as ordered.

I think I found you via Meg.

I agree with Heather at Dooce -- Britney probably has some variety of PPD and parties (perhaps also de-panties?) to medicate.

Caramel apples are just so freaking hard to eat. I hate getting goop on my chin.

Oh, and I think you should take pictures of the thing you most like to look at on the way into your house.

Hi Niobe ! I am Marta from Spain, and I can't remember how I found your blog. Come to think of it, I might remember after some I.V. coffee.

I love how you write, and your photos. I haven't suffered any losses like you or other people here, and reading your blogs has given me some insight on what you all feel. I thank you for having given me the opportunity of knowing and understanding, that I hadn't in the past when a loss happened to someone I knew. Not sure that this makes much sense... thank you anyway

Unknown said...

This is less of a delurk and more a semi-delurk. I have been known to comment on occasion, but nowhere near as regularly as I read. Ergo, my semi-delurk.

Doughnut said...

I doubt I would be considered a lurker to your blog since I visit regularly and comment often...maybe even too much at times! I think I got to your blog off a comment you made on someone else's blog regarding adoption. I do know the first post I read of yours was in regards to some biblical reference that I commented on. Then I kept coming back. I was drawn into your web - lol.

Clare said...

not so much delurking as trying to hang with the cool chicks.

Christine said...

was it really delurking day yesterday? boy i'm outta the loop!

Caro said...

Disagreeing with your googling here - no toffee apple I've ever had (in England) has been red - they've always been covered in crispy caramel

niobe said...

Caro: Now you're just confusing me. Do they have taffy apples in England too? How about caramel apples? Candy apples?

Carla said...

Delurking, a day late (story of my life). Love your perspective on many things - your "word" posts always make my day.

Caramel apples, please - without the apples.

Anonymous said...

Delurking (a little late). I found your blog through sad googling after a loss at 20 weeks at the end of June, and I read every day. Thank you for reintroducing me to A Shropshire Lad.

Unknown said...

Hi, Delurking to say that I too love your blog. I think I found you through a link from Mel's Stirrup Queens.

I love caramel apples. They are my favorite thing about fall.
I found your blog through the loss directory, I think. I've been reading loss blogs since my daughter was stillborn at 38 weeks two years ago.
Your photos are absolutely amazing.

Like the White Rabbit...late,late for a very important date. Delurking to say Hi! Came here from Patience's blog after reading a great comment you had made and stayed to read on.
Don't comment or delurk much because Google/Blogger hates me almost as much as I hate it and will drop me into some loop from hell arguing about my username or password or making me fill in those random letters ad infinitum. Then it swallows my comment.

Love the caramel apples.

Rob

Anonymous said...

A little late, but de-lurking as requested. I normally come through via Aurelia's blog.

I like apples slices with caramel poured over them, but not the apples on sticks. And I think that Brit must have a really f'ed up life for K-fed to get custody. *Shrudder* Scary.

Hmmm. Now I want some caramel ...

CappyPrincess said...

Also a bit late with the delurking. I've seen your link on a number of blogs - Kristen's most recently, and I admit to being a link clicker just to see what other people read. So hi! Nice to read you.

Apple slices with caramel dip - carmel mixed with peanut butter even better. Yum!

Britney - well, let's just say that when you get a wake up call like she just did to put the needs and safety of her children first, you better heed it. For her and for her boys, I hope she does what she needs to in order to stay involved with them.
